Blue Irises - SOLD

Blue Irises
Watercolor on Arches Paper, Image Size: 15" x 17"
Paper Size: 16" x 20"
SOLD at $35 plus $10 shipping.

Buy with PayPal

I've been pretty much out of commission for about a week with what I'm thinking must have been food poisoning. Pretty yucky all around. But I was feeling better enough today to settle in and paint. Starting to feel a little stronger again. Side note: the paper is an off white, but much whiter than this. The house light bulbs give it this tinge.

I like this one, the colors, and the serenity. Good way to enjoy the snow without the cold.

Since this one didn't sell, I am offering it again, at auction. I'll let you guys determine the price. How's that?
Below is a Glarey Photo, but the colors are more accurate. It has a feel of green and yellow to it.

Sunflowers - Refined and Reduced

SOLD at $60 plus pickup.

There was mixed reaction to the "Rough and Tumble Sunflowers" from the other day, so I decided that maybe I'm not quite ready for that style. You've got to be able to pull it off. I put this one back up on the easel, and made the leaves and background more polished looking. Better? I also have reduced the price. We'll see.

A little bit more of a formal approach today, with blending and a slower style. I like it too.
I think the vase (which was a thrift shop find) turned out nicely. As I was painting I was thinking of how when you try to take a photo of a bunch of kids, they are all looking everywhere but at the photographer. "Look here, guys! Face front!"

Rough and Tumble Sunflowers - NA

Rough and Tumble Sunflowers
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20"
Available at $100 plus $18 shipping.
Reworked on Jul 30, 2014.

This is a bit of an experiment. I normally smooth and blend pretty much the entire painting, but today I just left things "brushy" to see how it would work. What do you think? You can see all the brush scrubbing throughout. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's different, anyway.

Here's a detail (close up) of  the palette knife work.

This one was done with a red undercoat, then painted in acrylics, loosely, and then palette knife in oil over the entire painting. Time consuming, but effective. The tip of the palette knife gives me an almost pencil-like control, over stroking and blending and placement of colors.

Golden Summer Creek - SOLD

SOLD at $60 plus $10 shipping.

Here's another one on reclaimed canvas, this time a panel, which KM found for me at Goodwill. Yay!
It's a perfectly good canvas, still had it's plastic wrap on it, and it was wonderful to paint on today. The landscapes come so much more easily to me than say, grapes. Thanks for looking.

Waterfall a la Johannes - SOLD

Waterfall a la Johannes
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20"
SOLD at $25.00

That would be Johannes Vloothuis, of course, and yes, I'm signed up for another series of paint along Saturday afternoons.Today was the first, and it was a tricky painting. I really don't have good luck with rocks, and I've gotten very frustrated with waterfalls in the past. AND we only had four colors (plus white): cad red, lamp black, viridian, white, and yellow ochre pale. That's it! It's not nearly as interesting as his painting, but it is always good to take a class, and watch and listen to a master.

Oh, and lest you worry, he long ago gave us permission to sell our paint-along paintings. Who knows, you may see more than one on DPW tomorrow.
