Shore View - SOLD
Shore View
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
First thing this morning, the light was so lovely, and I faced the other direction (I'd been facing to the right, today I faced left to see the rest of the shore.) What really struck me was the bright white peeking through all the dark of the trees. And then I got to go for a sail boat ride, yay! I am pretty happy with this one.
String of Lights - SOLD
String of Lights
Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
I was wishing I had one of my long, narrow canvases for this. Just a quick study of what you can see in the night, looking out from the front steps. The pier and strip of distant land are darker shapes against a lighter dark. This was fun to paint.

Beach House in Long Light - SOLD

The Screen Porch - SOLD
The Screen Porch
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping.
I'm really not good with buildings. I think the shapes jump around while I'm trying to get the angles right. I wish I had set this lower on the canvas, and may decide to try it again. I do like the light inside the porch, and the way the grass turned out.
The Little White Garage - SOLD
The Little White Garage
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping.
I'm not sure if I like this one or not. The concept delighted me, the way the light was playing on the white garage and the pine needles on the roof, but I think I should have planned more for the execution. Instead I got all anxious that the light would change too quickly and rushed it, while getting bit by mosquitoes sitting in the shade. I'll take some photos today to try to catch the same late afternoon light, and try this one again.

Beach Chairs in the Shade - SOLD
Beach Chairs in the Shade
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $70.00 plus shipping.
No dock sitting this morning, as I turned my attention closer to land. The neighbors two white chairs were just lovely in the shade, so that's what caught my eye. I had to time things just right, as the sun was ducking in and out, and I had to wait to paint shadows and lights. It has a nice flavor, I think.

Silvery Water Sunset - SOLD
Silvery Water Sunset
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping.
I had left all my painting gear out on the dock from this morning, so decided to go for the silvery light that was gathering this afternoon. Almost, almost sunset. The buggies were winning though, despite Cutters all over me and my clothes. Nasty little swarmy get-in-your-eyes buggies, you know the ones. Then it started to rain, and that was great, it chased away the bugs. And rain doesn't bother oils at all. Then it stopped and the buggies came back. They won, I came inside to finish this subtle little piece.
Quillen's Point Pier, View 2 - SOLD
Quillen's Point Pier, View 2
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping.
Okay, I like this one a little better than yesterday's, but it just takes practice, and I expect that by the time I'm happy with my plein air work, it'll be time to leave this beautiful place. (Good excuse to come back, right?) What I was really after this morning was the sense of shade and sunlight. I think I caught it some on the left, more than the right. Still, what a great place to paint! And another chance tomorrow.

Simple Sparkles - SOLD
Simple Sparkles
Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping.
Looking out from the pier, and trying to catch the clouds. Nothing like an expanse of water for being able to see the sky. I will have to remember to "push" my values, as I am always telling my students, since I wanted to show the sparkles more than this.
View From The Pier - SOLD
View From the Pier
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping.
I knew going in that the first several plein air paintings would be less than impressive, it's been so long since I've simply sat outdoors and painted. I really tried on this one, but the composition is a bit off. There was just so much to see, and every time I looked, I saw some other detail. Nothing like sitting on a pier though, with the quiet and bird sounds, sunshine, a little bit of lapping water...ahhh.
