Maple Dreaming - SOLD

Maple Dreaming Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. It has been cool here in Maryland the past couple of days, clear, crisp almost fall weather. The kind of days that make you want socks instead of flip flops. It also makes me want to paint fall colored paintings. So here's one for today. I've used the photo from Wauwinet Road before and I like this one just as well. Thanks for looking. http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/ NelVanL@aol.com

Lemons for Corinne - SOLD

Lemons for Corinne Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 16" SOLD. Interestingly enough, I haven't gotten tired of doing these lemon paintings. It's interesting to me anyway. I hope you haven't gotten tired of seeing them. This is the last for awhile. On to a landscape, and a couple more magnolias. http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/ NelVanL@aol.com

Lemons for Linda - SOLD

Lemons for Linda Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 16" SOLD. I am back "home" again after a nice stay at my cousins' beautiful home. I decided to just keep satisfying some of my request paintings. So here's yet another long lemon painting. They really are so fresh and crisp looking, aren't they? http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/ NelVanL@aol.com

Experimental Still Life - SOLD

Experimental Still Life Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16" SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping. A larger painting today, and I experimented with being "painterly" and used a bristle brush instead of my usual softer brushes. It had a nice feel to it, but I think I need to work on the difference between having it look "loose" and painting "loose." Isn't that a Richard Schmid saying? Loose is how it should look, not how it is painted. http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com NelVanL@aol.com

Figs with Mug - SOLD

Figs with Mug Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" SOLD at $45.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Another pocket painting today. This one with the figs treated a bit more cleanly. Aren't they pretty with those great colors? I really tried hard not to blend, blend, blend on this one, and for the most part was able to be restraiined with it. Of course the figs had to be touched up, but I'm hoping to get to the point where I can do a painting without blending at all. http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/ NelVanL@aol.com

Funky Figs - SOLD

Funky Figs Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10" SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping. Well, this one is different. I have never bought, eaten or cooked figs, but a collector turned friend, brought me some from her fig tree. (Thanks, K.) Isn't that neat? They are lovely little fruits, all maroon and orangey at the bottom and this lovely yellow green at their little tops. I want to try a more serious pocket painting of just one or two tomorrow, and then figure out how to eat them. Peeled? Cut open, raw? Cooked? Meanwhile, because of the yellow polka dotted napkin under my bowl here, this one turned out a bit on the funky side, certainly not a traditional still life. http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/ NelVanL@aol.com

Dayglow - SOLD

Dayglow Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10" SOLD at $40.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Sometimes when I've been doing a lot of still lifes, a landscape out of my imagination is refreshing to just do. Let the painting go where it wants to. Use some nice summery colors, add a touch of fallish feeling, put a little glow in the sky, and voila. Simple and refreshing. http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/ NelVanL@aol.com PS. For those of you who were concerned about a hacker, Rosanna is my daughter in law, and the Verizon phone and Internet service is in her name at the apartment. I am still not sure about how to send messages from the google group, but this litttle workaround seems to be okay for now. Thanks for your notes!

Pears with Blue Bowl - SOLD

Pears with Blue Bowl Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12" SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping. Using the same blue bowl as yesterday, and the tea towel from a kitchen drawer, I had fun with this one. I actually only have four pears, so I had to paint one and then move it to the other side. On this one I tried a combination of blending and not blending. The cloth is actually pretty painterly, more the direction I want to go, and the pears and bowl are my usual style. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Fun, isn't it? http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/ NelVanL@aol.com

Blue Bowl with Tomato - SOLD

Blue Bowl with Tomato Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10" SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping. Nice to have access to a whole bunch of pretty pottery, the lovely little bowl I found with the everyday dishes. And the tomato I'll eat at supper. I really like the color in this one, and I really tried not to blend and fuss like I usually do. It's a hard habit to get away from.

Magnolia for Hal and Dawn - Gifted

Magnolia for Hal and Dawn Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" Gift, Not Available This one is for my cousins, since Hal mentioned that he has been wanting one of these images, but they are always sold before he gets the chance. So this one is for my dear cousins, and they will know that it was painted by the light of their dining room wondow.

Pear and Blue Glass - SOLD

Pear and Blue Glass Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" SOLD at $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Just as the light was getting low this afternoon, and I'd finished with a lot of running around, the light coming in the dining room window begged for something in front of it. I found a beautiful blue glass bottle, and set a pear in front of it. I liked the reflections on the white windowsill.

Dried Hydrangeas - SOLD

Dried Hydrangeas
Oil on Stretched Canvases, 6" x 6" each
SOLD at $40.00 the set plus $10.00 shipping.
It always takes a painting or two to get into gear when you are working in a different environment. I am staying at a cousin's home, and spotted a nice vase of dried hydrangeas with gorgeous colors. (The back yard is a dream. That's next.) So splashed some of the dried hydrangea colors onto a couple of small canvases this morning. Not my finest, but I'll get settled and have something more solid tomorrow.

Magnolias on My Mind - SOLD

Magnolias on My Mind Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16" SOLD at $125.00 plus shipping. I have been working on a series of larger magnolia pieces, and you could call this one a practice painting. It's done on a slightly different canvas than the series, Winsor Newton canvas has more rounded edges. The background here looks black, but it is actually a deep, rich brown-maroon-purplish color.

Tiny Cradled Landscape - SOLD

Tiny Cradled Landscape
Oil on Artist Panel, 6" x 6"
Edges painted, no frame needed
SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
We have rain this afternoon, which means my photos are not taken with much natural daylight. Somewhere between these two photos is the actual color of the tiny landscape painting. I think I am happiest with my landscapes when they have some sienna in them, touches of reddish brown. They just feel better.

Pocket Lemons 2 and 3 - SOLD

Pocket Lemons 2, Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6", SOLD Pocket Lemons 3, Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6", SOLD The tiny lemon painting yesterday was popular, so I did two more for people who had asked to buy the first one. They never turn out exactly alike, and goodness knows, that would be pretty boring, replicating as close as possible the same painting. However, you are never guaranteed the exact same "something" that attracted someone in the first place. You hope, but sometimes it just doesn't. In this case, it was fine, both collectors wanted the new pieces. And as one of them said, (loosely quoted) "You can never have enough lemons, to remind you to make lemonade out of what life serves up!" (good quote, M.)

Pocket Lemons - SOLD

Pocket Lemons Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" SOLD at $45.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Another small pocket painting. Since I have the lemons anyway. This will be my new standard price for the "pocket paintings," with $5.00 shipping, unless of course, you live overseas.

Grogan Road Four - SOLD

Grogan Road Four Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD. This one, in this size, is done on request. I am trying to slowly get caught up on my request list, and this makes one more done. Yay! If the collector decides against getting it, I'll change this post to "available." Addendum: They liked it, wanted it, it's SOLD.

Lemons Two - SOLD

Lemons Two Oil on Stretchd Canvas, 8" x 16" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. One of my collectors had a request in for a painting similar to "Lemons in a Line Up" in the same 8" x 16" size. I had to search several art stores to find the canvas, so I bought two. Did the Lemons for him last night, and this one this afternoon. (Since I had all the colors out, and the lemons were looking good...) The sold one is below: Lemons for Alan Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 16" SOLD.

Grapes Backlit - NA

Grapes Backlit Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" Not Available. I am trying to teach myself to think smaller with these 6" x 6" canvases, even though they still take me three or four hours to do. I can see that I am going to have to invest in some smaller brushes. I really am enjoying this series of red grapes, the colors are so varied and beautiful. I am dubbing these small guys "pocket paintings" though nobody I know would carry a painting in their pocket. It's catchy, don't you think?
