There is a wonderful "kid tree" in my daughter's front yard, with an outreaching branch which calls to all sorts of kids. I named it the Jimmy Tree today, because I can see my older grandson climbing in his tree fort there. Also very common in this part of Massachusets is the old stone wall along the road. They are everywhere, meandering and moss covered, and my daughter's front yard has one of those as well. A nice time painting in the sunshine today. Thanks for looking.

Pink Sprig Rhododendron - SOLD

The only thing blooming right now in my daughter's yard are bushes, so I cut a sprig and really like the leaves, with their edges of red and the way the light catches them. Forsythia in Bloom

Back to my new favorite old farm, and found a nice bunch of forsythia in bloom, and this enormous old pine tree. The abandoned house is one of those telescoping kind, part brick and part clapboard. At the beginning of Wauwinet Road is a wonderfully picturesque abandoned farm, with barn, silo and big lovely fields (there were deer grazing there today), and a wonderful old deserted red farmhouse, with curtains still in it's windows. I'll have lots of fun painting there. Today was all about the young greens of spring, with an overcast sky. Beautiful! Thanks for looking.

We each had an orchid to work from, and it was superb to paint and then eat lunch amidest thousands of orchids; since the workshop was in conjunction with the January orchid show. Sienna irises - SOLD

So decided to try using oils on the clayboard. Not advised. I had to use a lot of oil and medium to get the paint to flow at all, since the clay is designed to absorb moisture. I had taken a Tom Lynch workshop last year, and Tom is so enthusiastic about watercolor canvas that I bought some to try. It may be something that you need to try a few times before you "get it", but right now, it's not for me. Give me good watercolor paper, and let my canvas be happy with oils. If nobody wants this one, I'm going to wash it away and use the canvas for oils. If anyone likes it, it can be sprayed and framed without glass or matting. Thanks for looking.
