This one was so relaxing to do. I mean, I still had to "think" and "consider" a bit, but it went so slowly that there was plenty of time to try and see, change if needed. Dot, dot, dot... the acrylic dries so fast that you can make changes all day long if you want to. So much fun! I plan to do more of these, starting with a front porch "SIT" to look at clumps of leaves across the street, before they all fall.

April Spring Greens

A new series of art work derived from anything in and around my apartment. Front porch, back porch, my little garden, random still lives, drawings, paintings, whatever. The idea is for me to stay put and share what's right here.

There were a couple of those big, fluffy bees keeping me company out on the back porch as I painted this. I could imagine that they were curious as to what I was doing, hovering over my paper as I painted, moving slightly every time I did, occasionally freaking me out a bit by buzzing past my ears. Maybe they liked the colors in my palette. Who knows?

Same bunch of flowers as the other day, but using Acrylics this time. The acrylics put me in mind of my oils, and so I revert to oil techniques and tactics, except for the luxury of being able to paint over top of things, they dry so quickly. I'm pretty happy with this one, but I want to go more abstract...Hmmmm, bigger brushes maybe?

At Walmart this past week, on the end cap, were all these "homey" little bouquets for $4.87 apiece; nothing exotic, hut nice little quotidien flowers. They are lasting pretty well. I bought two since my budget was $10.00 and I am happy with my babies. Today I want to try it in acrylics, and then maybe a third to get more abstract. We'll see how they last.

The fish eye effect on the painting image; I don't know how to get rid of or avoid, sorry. The weaving strips are not that curved. This is basically two floral paintings on paper treated with an experimental base (Plaster of Paris mixed with Gesso). (see below for example) When those florals were boring, I cut them both up and wove them. Then applied Gel Medium and glued them to yet another piece of paper, so the whole thing is a bit thick, and a bit "lumpy", but will not need glass.
