Today was a day for peripherals; washing brushes, gessoing boards, varnishing sold paintings, making tapioca from scratch, researching some Spring landscapes, ....and housekeeping, you know the drill. But I did want to do something quick and easy, so here's an apple.

The red onion sprouted while it was in the refridge, but I kind of like that touch of green.
The big yellow onion you've seen before. A quiet subject for a quiet Good Friday afternoon.

This one was originally well received, but I had it priced high, and I always thought that the lighting was a little confusing. Where was the sun, anyway? See below, this is how it looked before.




So I changed the direction of the light, and adjusted some of the foliage to make it clear. Did I make it better? I think so, but I'm not sure.

I've been immersed in my watercolors for a few days, so it feels rusty but good to get back to some oils.  I'm trying out some different colors for backgrounds on these still life pieces, to see what works.

I don't think that I've ever painted asparagus before, but what a lovely subject. Harder than I thought, even though I treated them as loosely as I could. Worth doing again, but right now I'm cooking these babies up and making some Hollandaise. Yum!

This one I'm calling "Evolution" because it's had so many iterations. It started life as "Heading Into Town" last year in May, then became Shady Lane, then Dappled Road, but now finally I'm done, and happy. It's got caboodles of layers on it, but I don't mind it. If you would mind all the texture, steer clear, it's very textured.

And here are some of my drawings from last night at our Life Drawing class. We were all chilly, but poor Sara had to keep her socks on, huddle by a space heater and drape herself with her robe for a little warmth.

On the way to Baltimore with H. the other day, there was fog, and we were noticing how appealing the farm buildings looked with the misty air. There were only quick looks, no time for photos, but today I just played around to see if I could come up with the "feeling" of the fog.

This was a tricky one, with the eggs and shallot being soooooo close in color.
And the bowl...hmmm, because of the lighting and reflections, it looked turquoise in some spots and greenish in others. Tricky, tricky. But I like the end result, and hope you do too.

The glaze is really quite beautiful. I got this lovely little bowl by trading artwork. What a grand way to barter for lovely things.
