Autumn Skyline - SOLD

Autumn Skyline
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 6" x 8"
SOLD at $24 plus $10 shipping.
(priced at $0.50 per square inch)

Another little fall piece, this time with an intense blue sky. The kind of sky I associate with a crisp fall day, a deep wild cobalt.

Maple in Fall Dress - SOLD

Maples in Fall Dress
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 8" x 8"

(Still at $0.50 per square inch)

This isn't color in full fury yet, but we'll get there.
Promise! The maples are my favorites.

Lemons and Brass - SOLD

Lemons and Brass
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $40 plus $10 Shipping.
( priced at $0.50 per square inch)

Originally this was four lemons on white, then I thought it was too plain, so I put three on some polka dotted turquoise fabric. Then I thought about this little brass jug, and added that. The lemon I discarded was set aside onto an old black wife beater, and that looked more dramatic, so I found some black wool, and that's how a still life evolves. I'm not entirely happy with the jug, but it sure has drama.

And Fall Begins - SOLD

And Fall Begins
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $50, plus $10 shipping.

I've had this photo reference in my landscapes folder for awhile, and I've been holding off, holding off, not time yet to paint fall colors.....but today, I finally gave in and started. I like this one for the no-sky background, and that gorgeous but elusive color of the muted shore. I'm pretty happy with the results.

A Fly By - SOLD

A Fly By
Original Watercolor Note cards, Each Handpainted, with A6 Envelopes
Cards are 5 1/2" by 4  1/4"  when folded.
Watercolors overlap onto back slightly.
$20 the set, plus Who Knows...$5 shipping?

Below is how they look when packaged in cellophane sleeves.

So, a bit of an explanation. The note cards are an idea for a possible Etsy shop, for those times when my paintings just aren't selling. Other ideas include gift enclosures, cute little cards with delicate envelopes (not intended for the mail), paper bags with cool bag tags, maybe watercolor earrings....Ideas are free...so exploring along with my cousin and cohort.

What do you guys think?

I Heart Dapples - SOLD

I Heart Dapples
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $50, plus $10 shipping.
(at $0.50 per square inch)

I suppose if I put my mind to it, I could have found a "heart" to stick in the title, but this works too.
Gotta love those sun blasted dapples.

Imperfectly Lovely

Imperfectly Lovely
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 8" x 10"
Available at $40 plus $10 shipping.
(at $0.50 per square inch)

OK, I'm tickled with this one. I've always liked the photo reference, which is of a scruffy backyard, patchy grass, dirt showing, nothing special, but with a wonderful blaze of sunlight. I painted it completely directly, with hardly any blending, fussing, or changing. So I get to be tickled with the results.

The Winding Road - SOLD

The Winding Road - SOLD
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16"
Available at $128, plus $10 shipping.
(at $0.50 per square inch)

I did a small version of this one on the 2nd of September, and mentioned that I really wanted to do a larger version. So here it is on 16" x 16" canvas, and I am really very pleased with it. I like the feeling of distance, the hills and fields in the background. It just turned out all around well. I think, anyway.

Hint of Fall - NA

Hint of Fall
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 10" x 10"
Not Available, Revised on October 17, 2017
(at $0.50 per square inch)

Just a touch of fall in the air now, a few trees shedding leaves already, some hints of color here and there. Nature makes up to us for ending summer, by giving us the glorious colors of fall, still to come.Though we can't complain, today really is like summer still, complete with mosquitoes!

Fishing Spot - SOLD

Fishing Spot
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

A slight deviation from my new pricing schedule of $ .50 a square inch, simply because I'm feeling rusty, after having been sick this entire past week. I'll get back into the swing, little by little. Feeling much better today, well enough to paint, take out the trash, clean up my kitchen, make a quiche.

Nearly Dried - SOLD

Nearly Dried
Watercolor on Poor Quality Watercolor Paper, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

I've been dreadfully sick with a mega cold...fever, chills, snuffling, coughing, sniffling, blowing, you know. I'm feeling a tad better on my regimen of Day and Nyquils, even though those good drugs play havoc with my digestive system. What a trade off, right? I was able to play with my watercolors just a bit today, but it was on horrid paper, (we won't say what kind) so I eeked what charm I could out of my almost dried out bouquet.

Iris in Aubergine - NA

I have changed the background a bit, made it more scumbly. I am reposting on the DPW site as well.
Better, I think. Really quite a nice piece.

Iris in Aubergine
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16"
Not Available - revised on 10/2/2017
( still at $  .50 per square inch)

I have a commission for an iris in this color, maybe with a bit more orangey brown tones, so this one is a practice run for the commission. I normally don't do this, but I had ordered extra canvas, knowing that the 16" x 16" are tricky to come by.

Late Summer Hydrangeas - SOLD

Hydrangeas from DJ
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $50 plus $10 shipping.

I got from my brother a nice big armful of the late summer hydrangeas from the "Emily bush", and the colors are just scrumptious. The jug is also beautiful, a gift from my dear cousins B and J, an antique Dutch jug, so cool. (You will definitely see this one again!)  I just love these colors, a few weeks ago the hydrangeas were all in the pinks.

Little White Farmhouse - SOLD

This one is small, just a little guy this morning, but later hydrangeas.

Little White Farmhouse
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 4 7/8" x 6"
SOLD at $13.00 plus $7 shipping.

I liked the image-photo reference, and may decide to do it again larger.
I think that there is a bit of quiet charm there, with those open fields beyond.

Peaches on Stripes - SOLD

Peaches on Stripes

SOLD

Detail (close up) of the bottom and side edge. Painting extends all around the edges.
You can see it on DPW HERE.

Done by request by a collector.

Into the Hills - SOLD

Into the Hills
Oil on Hardboard, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $50, plus $10 shipping.
( $  .50 per square inch.)

I love this one, with the variety of colors. I want to do it again, bigger next time.
Nice to get into a landscape, they are wonderfully freeing.

Lemons, Roughly - SOLD

Lemons, Roughly
Oil on Hardboard, 6" x 8"
SOLD at $24 plus $10 shipping.
( $  .50 per square inch)

This was uncomfortable, but I really want to be able to paint loose, so....
Big brush (okay, I cheated a little, just a bit) and only a little blending, concentrating on value and color, and holding myself back (mostly) from fussing. The idea is that from across a room, the details don't matter, only the shapes and values. So, if you sit back in your chair about three feet, don't they "read" lemons?

Here's a close up shot.

Three and a Slice for Tea - SOLD

Three and a Slice for Tea
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 4.75" x 10"
SOLD at $23.00 plus $10 shipping.
( $  .50 per square inch)

OK, this one was supposed to be very loose, so I started out with a large brush, and we were rolling along nice and sketchy, until I realized that there were some drawing mistakes. Then things got tighter, tighter, tighter, until I am painting in my usual style. So hard to break from habits. Now I know I have to start out with a very accurate drawing in order to really get loose. Sounds like a contradiction, doesn't it? I'll try it and let you know.

Zinnias with Celosia - SOLD

Zinnias with Celosia
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $40 plus $10 shipping.
( at $ .50 per square inch)

So my flowers from the Farmer's Market are almost completely faded, I made two vases into one this morning, and decided that I'd better get them painted while I still could. I'm pretty happy with this little guy. The little glass vase was a gift from my dear cousin (thanks, B!)
