Magnolia Surround - SOLD

Magnolia Surround
Oil on Gessoed MDF Board, 16" x 16"
SOLD at $95 plus $15 shipping

This one is large, and has some presence. It took me three days to paint. I kept getting lost in the photo reference, what goes where? I simplified things considerably, and I'm happy with the results. The idea is that you are standing right in front of (or inside) a blooming magnolia.

Welcome Spring! - SOLD

Welcome Spring!
Oil on Gessoed MDF Board, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $40 plus $10 shipping.

Yesterday I gessoed up some of my bigger boards, so I could get back into some landscapes. I do like the little still life work, but every once in awhile, a landscape is what you want to paint. Celebrating Easter, April and the arrival of real Spring weather. A lovely hillside of basking beauties.

Simple Apple - SOLD

Simple Apple
Oil on Gessoed MDF Board, 6" x 6"
SOLD at $15 plus $10 shipping.

Today was a day for peripherals; washing brushes, gessoing boards, varnishing sold paintings, making tapioca from scratch, researching some Spring landscapes, ....and housekeeping, you know the drill. But I did want to do something quick and easy, so here's an apple.

Couple of Onions - SOLD

Couple of Onions
Oil on Gessoed MDF Board, 5" x 7"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

The red onion sprouted while it was in the refridge, but I kind of like that touch of green.
The big yellow onion you've seen before. A quiet subject for a quiet Good Friday afternoon.

Three Peppers Diptych - SOLD

Three Peppers Diptych
Oil on Two MDF Panels, 6" x 12" total
SOLD at $25 plus $10 shipping.

Here is what this one looks like separated:

You could frame them as two, side by side. Or frame them as one, however you like.

Light Catchers, Revised - SOLD

Fall Panorama (Light Catchers, Revised)
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 20"
SOLD at $45 plus $10 shipping.

This one was originally well received, but I had it priced high, and I always thought that the lighting was a little confusing. Where was the sun, anyway? See below, this is how it looked before.

So I changed the direction of the light, and adjusted some of the foliage to make it clear. Did I make it better? I think so, but I'm not sure.

Green Bowl with Peppers - SOLD

Green Bowl with Peppers
Oil on Gessoed MDF Board, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $25 plus $10 shipping.

One more go around with the peppers, this time in a bowl.
Bowls are terrifically hard to paint, but I think I got close with this one.

Plate of Pretty Peppers - SOLD

Plate of Pretty Peppers
Oil on Gessoed MDF Board, 6" x 6"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

Produce blessings from D. (Thanks, D!) These and the asparagus, some clementines which went into watercolor, and some avocados, which got eaten. Good to have thoughtful friends who bring treats to paint.

Three Plums - SOLD

Three Plums
Oil on Gessoed MDF Board, 5" x 7"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

I've been immersed in my watercolors for a few days, so it feels rusty but good to get back to some oils.  I'm trying out some different colors for backgrounds on these still life pieces, to see what works.

Asparaguus with Lemon - NA

Asparagus with Lemon
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 12"
Not Available

I don't think that I've ever painted asparagus before, but what a lovely subject. Harder than I thought, even though I treated them as loosely as I could. Worth doing again, but right now I'm cooking these babies up and making some Hollandaise. Yum!

Pear with Plums - SOLD

Pear with Plums
Oil on Hardboard, 6" x 8"
SOLD at $25.00 plus $10.00 shipping.

Some dear new friends brought me goodies and treats when they stopped to pick up paintings. Yay! Thanks, D & L! These plums were among the goodies, and some lovely clementines and asparagus.
I have some great subjects!

Three Lovelies - SOLD

Three Lovelies
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 6" x 8"
SOLD at $25 plus $10 shipping

Aren't these pretty? I DO love painting pears, and now that they've shown their blush, I get to eat them. Wait, wait...okay, maybe one more painting from them before.

Evolution in Paint - SOLD

Evolution in Paint
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $40 plus $10 shipping.

This one I'm calling "Evolution" because it's had so many iterations. It started life as "Heading Into Town" last year in May, then became Shady Lane, then Dappled Road, but now finally I'm done, and happy. It's got caboodles of layers on it, but I don't mind it. If you would mind all the texture, steer clear, it's very textured.

And here are some of my drawings from last night at our Life Drawing class. We were all chilly, but poor Sara had to keep her socks on, huddle by a space heater and drape herself with her robe for a little warmth.

Two minute gesture poses, above and below.

 Longer poses, obviously.

With the robe draped and socks on.

Tomato, Onion and Shallot

Tomato, Onion and Shallot
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 8" x 8"
Available at $25 plus $10 shipping.

This one feels like it should be about Italian cooking. Maybe some marinara sauce or something. But these guys really seem comfortable together. Don't they?

Just Tomatoes - SOLD

Just Tomatoes
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 7" x 7"
SOLD

One of my collectors wanted the tomato and mug painting from yesterday, but it was already sold, so today I painted this one for her. With just tomatoes.

Tomatoes with Pottery Mug - SOLD

Tomatoes with Pottery Mug
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $25 plus $10 shipping.

I got all my shipping done today, such a good feeling.
And then sat down to see what I could do with these lovely (organic) tomatoes.
Or as my friend says about the Natural Food Store, "Why Pay Less?"

Pears with Pottery - SOLD

Pears with Pottery
Oil on Gessoed Hardboard, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $25 plus $10 shipping.

Down to the Chestertown Natural Foods store yesterday for some nice produce.
I needed some new models! And aren't these pretty pears?
Bowls by Bev Halpert.

Farmland in Fog - SOLD

Farmland in Fog
Oil on Wood Panel, 6" x 8"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

On the way to Baltimore with H. the other day, there was fog, and we were noticing how appealing the farm buildings looked with the misty air. There were only quick looks, no time for photos, but today I just played around to see if I could come up with the "feeling" of the fog.

Blue Bowl with Eggs and Shallot

Blue Bowl with Eggs and Shallot
Oil on MDF Board, 8" x 8"
Available at $25 plus $10 shipping.

This was a tricky one, with the eggs and shallot being soooooo close in color.
And the bowl...hmmm, because of the lighting and reflections, it looked turquoise in some spots and greenish in others. Tricky, tricky. But I like the end result, and hope you do too.

Burl Wood with Pottery and Shallot - SOLD

Burl Wood with Pottery and Shallot
Oil on MDF Board, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $25 plus $10 shipping.

From my cousin D. I got a couple of beautiful wood boxes this past weekend, and this is one of them. I love the subtle texture in the wood. The bowls are both Beverly Halpert pottery, and the shallot came from my friend S. Thanks, all!
