I had spotted a nice magnolia tree on public land along the bike trail, so today for my walk, I took along a clippers and found a coupleof nice sprigs. Don't the leaves look nice with the lemons?

Walking downtown today, the in-town maples had turned, and I noticed leaves that were almost neon in their brightness. Gorgeous colors! Like the red-oranges here, so vivid. Other varieties were less flashy, but lovely yellows and browns. Don't you love the fall colors? We are actually almost done here, between the rain and the cold. BUT ....only 5 months until Spring!

I used a warmer (more yellow) light today, and these actually look sort of "golden" now.
Interesting, the difference in how things look under different color-leaning lights.

OK. I hope this shows up all right, I've got it set at the largest size that seems to fit.I think it's my favorite fall piece so far, it feels sunny but mild. Not one of those crispy days, where all the edges are sharp and keen. It has a nice variety of colors, a few brights but not all. Yup, I'm pleased with it.

This one is revised from one I painted the other day called "New England Maples."
It felt a bit stark, though I liked it. So today I made it softer, added branches, more leaves on the ground, played down the lemony color, made the yellow warmer. Better maybe, or just different. Maybe more appealing.And free shipping probably doesn't hurt, right?

I did one a couple of weeks back of just the maple, and not much more, since it was a smaller board. But oh, nice to spread out and do the entire reference photo. The maples in New England are always so gorgeous at this time of the year. That I DO miss, but surely NOT the winters. Much easier getting thru a Maryland winter.

The photo is not out of focus, the painting is soft, blended, with very few hard edges.
Hence, Fall, softly. I chose a small format this evening, since I had a calligraphy project that needed to get done today, and it left me little time for painting. But a small one? Doable.Isn't it appealing?

Since my Google search has been highjacked by some ad program called "searchencrypt" which I can't get rid of, I went to wet canvas (instead of my standby Google Image search)  and spent an hour looking at posted (to share) autumn photos. Found some nice ones, including this one. I loved the intense colors and the high contrast. Hope you do too, it was fun to paint!

There's nowhere quite like New England in the fall. With all the maples, the colors are just amazing.
I don't think there has been a peak yet this year, but oh, when the maples blast their yellows and reds and oranges, wow, it takes your breath away!
