I've done this one before in a square format and in smaller sizes, and it has always appealed. Something that we all like about the invitation of a path, not knowing what's in the distance, but sunlight and open spaces.

I did this one as a demo at class, and wasn't thrilled with the results. But then, I wasn't keen on the plein air piece from Brookside either, and the response to that one has been surprising. Hmm. So I decided I'd post this one, and see what you all think. The azaleas were gorgeous that day, and it was clear and bright. A few of my ladies did try their hand at plein air.

I'm happy with this one. It has a good mood to it, sunny, fresh. I like the rocks, which have nice shadow colors, I think. It's one of my favorite subjects.

What a glorious day to be out painting. I sat in the shade across the path from my fellow painter, and watched 10 little goslings follow their parents around, into the water, then out and up the hill, then back, and repeat. So cute. This one will be continued around the sides, top and bottom, so needs no frame. Of course, this kind of canvas is more expensive to begin with, and costs a bit more, weight wise to ship. But there's no fuss when it arrives, it just pops onto the wall.

I am so pleased with how this one turned out. I'm using the combination of cerulean, orange and white, for the shadowed petals, and some cobalt and white for freshness.

I picked up a new grey from an old (1976) book on floral oils by Charles Reid. It's cerulean and cad orange mixed with white, and it makes a wonderful, soft grey. If you are a painter, you might want to try it. It would be super for clouds too, I think.

I never know what to do about the paintings that really don't turn out. I wonder if professionals just ditch their "dogs" and move on to the next. I know some painters scrape and begin again. But at the end of the day, I figure I'll post for cheap, let you guys decide if it's good enough or not. Tomorrow's another day. Tomorrow is plein air, yay! Going to Brookside Gardens.

The original "sweet lady" was sitting in front of a store, but now I've given her a park to enjoy. I changed the color of her blouse, but let her keep her fanny pack.

Textured and Cradled Landscape - SOLD

This one is on cradled board, and I've extended the little landscape around the top, and side edges. I'll paint the bottom once it's a bit more dry. No frame is needed. I added texture before painting and gessoing, but using some Molding Paste. (See blog post below.) The texture added an interesting dimension to the painting, very nice. I'm not sure I would like it for, say a still life, or a portrait. But for landscapes, yum. ( It is hard on brushes, of course.)

Molding Paste

This is the Golden version of modeling or molding paste. It's used for adding texture into the surface of a painting. In the post above, I've used the molding paste under my painting, and it does indeed add texture. Be careful that you check whether the paste is flexible or not. Unless it says that it is flexible, you wouldn't want to use it on a stretched canvas. It gives you the chance to add nice "dry brush" effects into a landscape.
