Done with experimental colors and a combination of brush and knife work. I also wanted to try a ghost of a background, as though there was some fogginess way in the back, and hardly suggested silhouettes. Someting with the feeling of chilly morning light.

This one was pure joy to paint this morning. Loose, sketchy and fun. I was aiming more for the "feeling" of tulips, than the actual portrayal of what they look like.

The bouquet was the last, droopy one of tulips at our local grocery store, and I even managed to get a discount because it was already looking a little shop worn. I don't think I'll be seeing any more tulps this spring, so it's on to other florals now.

It's all relative, isnt it? This canvas felt small to me today, since I've been playing on 2 foot by 2 foot canvases this past week. When I do a lot of small work, this 12" x 12" size feels luxuriously big. A sun blasted meadow.

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. I was fortunate to be able to go to church, and heard powerful worship music and a comforting message. Got to spend a little time with my brother and his family. You can hear the message here.  For today a bit of a bigger painting on one of my favorite things to paint, woods and a path. I kept the colors to shades or greens and purples, and I think it works nicely.

Usually when I do the white flowers, I carefully blend and correct and adjust. These are not. I just layed the paint on with bristle brushes, no soft blenders, and let it be.

Originally it had leaves at the top too, but I decided to take them out, since they were directing the view right off the top of the canvas. This one has the painting extended around the wrap, so will not want framing.

I took the strawberries and revised this one a little. Took out the blue in the background, lightened the plate, toned everything down except for the berries. Much cleaner now.

My neighbor was kind enough to let me clip a bit of her tree for painting, but the little branch was a quite sparse looking with flowers only right now. I added the leaves from a wild dogwood in the woods. I'm not sure that smallish flowers lend themselves to painting, I seem to have better luck with the flowers that have more "presence," like irises. But this was fun to do on a rainy afternoon.

Can you tell I've been reading Charles Reid books? Don't you love his watercolors?
This one (like Reid's work) is about the feeling of tulips, not about the details. Although I drew it "tight" I deliberately painted it "loose." I'm pretty happy with it, and of course, now I want to do more watercolors.
