Experimental Landscape - SOLD

Experimental Landscape Oil on Canvas Panel, 10" x 10" SOLD at $35.00 plus shipping. I was reading recently about local color and scattered color, and how in painting, you should try to observe all the variouscolors inside a local color. Clint Watson mentioned it in passing in his Fine Art Views newsletter recently, and it startled me, I had to go back and read that again. Oh. Oh. You mean don't paint just the local color. Huh. So I've been thinking on that, and played today with this old landscape, experimenting a bit.

Fruit on Patterned Fabric - SOLD

Fruit on Patterned Fabric Oil on Canvas Panel, 10" x 12" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. Isn't this one dramatic? I remember doing it, and having fun with the fabric pattern. I can see it in a Mediterranean style room, or in a modern room with a lot of black and white furnishing and decor. I've got it priced low, since it isn't revised, and is an older piece.

Overcast Field - SOLD

Overcast Field Oil on Gessoed Panel, 9" x 12" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. Just a simple pastoral, with a sketchy feel to it. I do like the shadowed effect on the ground.

Path Up the Hill - SOLD

  • Path Up the Hill
  • Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 12"
  • SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping.

This is one of those paintings that I wish you could see in person. The photo here doesn't really show the layers and subtle complexities. (Can you tell I'm happy with this one?) It's an older piece revised, much better now, and worthy, I think.

Iris on Blue - SOLD

Iris on Blue Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD. I've had this one hanging in our hallway for awhile, and it never did sell. I decided today to change the background and lower the price. It's like the shoemaker with his barefoot children, you can't have your own paintings hanging in your house, except by default, of course. I am liking my new temp job, and find myself grinning on the Metro, for no reason whatsoever. Other tired, yawning commuters must think I'm a little "off."

Rainy Magnolia - SOLD

Rainy Magnolia Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12" SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping. Even when I do the same thing, I try to make it different somehow. This one with the vertical format, and the dove grey background qualify as that slight difference. This will be my last steady post until the weekend, as it's 6:00 pm here now, and tomorrow night at this time, I'll just be leaving work. (Yay, new job, even if it's temporary.) I don't plan on much painting time until the weekend. But lots of time to let ideas "stew."

Woodland Light 3 - SOLD

Woodland Light 3 Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16" SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping. Every once in awhile, I like doing a painting like this, with all the splashes of leaf color, warm and bright, cool and deep. And with a painting like this, I get to use my Caput Mortem and Sienna too, with specks of orange.

Dunes and Water Thoughts - SOLD

Dunes and Water Thoughts Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping. Just because it's very cold, very windy, very winterish here today, thoughts of summer creep into my head. This one is very sketchy and loose, some palette knife work, some swishy brush work. Once in awhile you get to "slop" paint around.

Large Pink Peony - SOLD

Large Pink Peony Oil on Stretched Canvas, 14" x 18" SOLD at $90.00 plus shipping. 2010, I like the way that gets said: twenty-ten. Happy second decade, and a blessed new year, new beginning. Thanks to all of you who have been so supportive, with encouraging notes, and many purchases. It keeps me going, that's for sure. I'm not much of one for making goals and resolutions, but I do feel that I need to stretch a lot this coming year with my painting. Really want to get some workshops and instruction under my belt. I've gotten a little stagnant lately. Need to move on, move on, grow, evolve, do more, do better...you know that feeling. Here's to a great year for all of us!

Sun Glazed Maples, Revised - SOLD

Sun Glazed Maples, revised Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping. This one was a bit too dark, I thought, so revised it and am offering it again, with a slightly lower price. A good blast of color for this end of the year piece.

Mugs and Pears - NA

Mugs and Pears Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 16" Gifted, NA. Ovals are so tricky to paint, I take my hat off to the still life painters who use a lot of plates and cups in their work. Hope you are all staying warm, enjoying this mid-holiday week, and here's good news: the days are getting longer, yay!

Hydrangea Horizontal - SOLD

Hydrangea Horizontal Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 16" SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping. I am running low on my favorite sizes of canvas, but did have a couple of these panels in the long size. Thinking about what I could use it for today, I decided to just lay out one of my stems of hydrangea and see what I could do. What do you think?

Funky Stack - SOLD

Funky Stack Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. Today was mostly babysitting and running around, so I only had a couple of short hours to paint tonight. Some of my collectors surprise me when they like the rough and tumble paintings, so even though this one is very sketchy, very rough, I thought I'd put it up anyway.

Dusty Rose Gallery Wrapped - SOLD

Dusty Rose, Gallery Wrapped Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8" x 7/8" SOLD at $45.00, includes shipping. This one will need no frame, unless preferred. I am painting all around the sides, continuing the image. I like this one, not so much for the rose, as for the color. That dusty, almost pink, but with brown, rose color.

Large White Peony - SOLD

Large White Peony Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20" SOLD at $100.00 plus shipping. I've had this one drawn out for a few days, and spray fixed, but waited until yesterday to begin it. It takes awhile to paint a good sized piece like this, so finished it up today. Don't you love peonies? I've done this one in watercolors before, so this time it's with oils.

Christmas Tree, 2009 - SOLD

Christmas Tree, 2009 Pen and Ink, watercolor, and markers on Cream Paper, 9" x 12" SOLD at $25.00, includes shipping. A Blessed Christmas, everyone! I hope that this day, you have the blessings of our Lord in your life and in your heart. What more could we hope for, a closer walk with Him. One of my collectors reminded me that a couple of years ago, I did a pen and ink of my daughter's Christmas tree in Massachusetts. So I did one for this year, a little different, and maybe it will become a tradition for this blog. This was so restful to do, all those patient little scritchy lines, which seems to me relaxing, just stroke along until it fills in. I am happy with the results, it seems a bit Victorian looking, don't you think?

View from my Window - SOLD

View from my Window Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $55.00 plus shipping. I generally have my back to this window, to catch the light, but the snow is still so lovely, that I turned my chair around today to paint this. Of course, with the wild growth, there is a lot more vine and scrap, but I condensed it. For those of you who celebrate Christmas Eve, I hope that yours is meaningful and precious.

Christmas Pears - SOLD

Christmas Pears Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8" SOLD at $35.00 plus shipping. Nice multicolored pears, somehow they seem Christmasy to me, maybe it's the green and red in them. I always like painting pears.

Christmas Poinsettia - NA

Christmas Poinsettia Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" NA, Revised Dec 1, 2010. One of my collectors asked me about holiday images recently...like, hey, when? LOL. So, I figured I'd better do something besides a watercolor with my lovely poinsettia plant. The grey shadow (top, center) was a cast shadow from my easel, and isn't in the painting.

Snow Colors - Gifted

Landscape Series, Number 4: Snow Colors Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8" Gifted. I loved all the snow yesterday, and was thinking about a painting in greys and whites, but today is sunblasted, with drifts everywhere, just gorgeous. So instead I did one of the series with today's colors.
