I am delighted with how this one turned out. It shows my two granddaughters, encountering the goats at the petting zoo, during our little apple picking excursion to Hamilton Orchards in New Salem, Massachusetts a couple of weeks ago. I love the way the two girls are standing, little Katie leaning in towards big sis, and Alex with her daring little stance. And the goat obligingly completing the triangle. Thanks, goat. The carnations were still good, so I reset them and tried again. Interesting viewpoint, isn't it? I set them on a folding chair next to me, so I could look sideways and down on them. This one seemed easy, I think sometimes you have to make a painting before you can paint a painting. The second one is almost always easier. Thanks for looking.

This is actually yesterday's painting, but our internet connection was down last night, and I couldn't post, so putting it up this morning. I worked on a still life that wasn't happening, so did a quick and swishy landscape instead from the same photos of the orchards. I do think my landscape style is evolving into a more daring application of paint, which I like. Thanks for looking.

I wanted to try a still life lengthwise and see what happened, and although I really like some of the brushwork, and the colors, the composition is just not good. What an odd piece. Unless we take risks and try new things, though, how would we grow? So I've posted this one, and named it after the sense of risk taking and stretching to grow. This one is done from a photo, since it's been really gusty today. We went apple picking last week, and the kids enjoyed it so much. This is the home of Gracie and Maverick, the neighbor's horses. I sat on the front lawn yesterday and just visible through the changing trees, I saw one or the other of the horses poking their heads out of the door. The colors are really happening now, very fall in the air. (The colors on the left side aren't really this washed out, got some glare in the photo.) Thanks for looking.
