I wanted to do white peonies for a gallery, but I struggled with these guys, and they've become very thick. So I'm thinking something else...magnolias maybe...for gallery quality work.
If you click to enlarge the photo, you can probably tell how heavy the paint is here. The painting continues around the sides, so no frame is needed.

My Thursday student prefers acrylics, and she liked the drama of the reference photo for this piece, so this is what we painted today. Acrylics work well for layering leaves, I think.

In an effort to paint a little faster, I only used a big flat brush (1/2 inch) on this one. It's a little less fussy than my usual style, and the painting only took me 2.5 hours to complete. I'm not convinced that it's better, but it sure goes faster.
