Hot Red Irises, yeehaw. And yes, they are almost the same. I decided to try out painting them in tandem, one petal on one and the same petal on the second and so on. It worked out nicely, as they each needed drying time, and I could switch back and forth.

I'm not thrilled with this one. I wanted to see if I could do a loose peony, instead of drawing it out carefully, each little petal and crimp, but as it turns out, a sketch doesn't exactly do it, and I like the careful ones better. But I think it turned out well enough to save, anyway.

I was delighted to have some students this morning at our local Michael's, and this was the landscape I demoed. We work in acrylics in class, and I did a little refining at home in oils (and yes, it's ok to do oils over acrylics, but not vice versa.) A little out of season, but I figured someone might like  it.
