Grapes Backlit - NA

Grapes Backlit Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" Not Available. I am trying to teach myself to think smaller with these 6" x 6" canvases, even though they still take me three or four hours to do. I can see that I am going to have to invest in some smaller brushes. I really am enjoying this series of red grapes, the colors are so varied and beautiful. I am dubbing these small guys "pocket paintings" though nobody I know would carry a painting in their pocket. It's catchy, don't you think?

Go Grapes - SOLD

Go Grapes Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" SOLD at $45.00 plus $5.00 shipping. I switched up canvas today, and floundered with it. I've been using Dick Blick brand canvas, and I've been very pleased with it. Switched to Winsor Newton, and I felt today like I was ice skating on this square. Time to get out the Gesso, it would seem, create some grip on these little guys.

Tootles!

Tootles! Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" Available at $80.00 plus shipping. I am just amazed by how perceptive and detail savvy my readers are. I had notes, comments and emails from people who took the trouble to really study the WIP, and give me great advice on what was wrong with the painting. You were spot-on. I even had a reader who superimposed the painting over the photo to show me what I could correct. I wish I had the expertise to make every single change you all suggested. But today my paint is tacky, and so I made what small changes I could, and finished the piece with the intention of letting it dry before I make more corrections. Thanks, everyone, for all the great help! Addendum: My daughter and I agree, that while it's a sweet face, it isn't our Katie Grace. So I'll do another for my dd, and call this one practice. It is available, for whoever just wants a sweet faced child painting hanging somewhere.

Katie Grace in Progress

Katie Grace in Progress
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
I generally don't show a WIP, but today I worked hard on this and didn't get done. Wanted to post it anyway. If it turns out to be enough of a likeness to my grandaughter, it will be a birthday present for my daughter. I also don't generally solicit critiques from you all, but if you can see what needs fixing or changing (there's a lot, I know), and feel like commenting, that would be great. The reference photo is included. Isn't she precious?

Grapies - SOLD

Grapies Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8" SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping. When you're an Oma of some duration, these are not grapes, but "grapies." Or would it be grapees? I love the colors you can find in these, yellows, oranges, ochres, reds, purples, mauve, brownish orange. In the light, they become almost translucent.

Ooo-la-la Apples - SOLD

Ooo-la-la Apples Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping. I had some fun with this one. I had some apples, but not very inspiring, you know. Then I took a red towel and did a drape, and suddenly, you've got something interesting. This is definitely for someone who loves red.

Jubilee - SOLD

Jubilee Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping. You know how sometimes you look in the fridge, even though you aren't sure what you're looking for. I opened an opaque plastic bag, and found cherries I didn't know were there. So today you get cherries...it's a jubilee!

Peppers with Purples - SOLD

Peppers with Purple
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $20.00, including shipping.
This is a revision of the Wild Mama Blues pepper painting from a couple of weeks ago. Oils are supposed to mix with water soluble oils, but I got a tackiness from overpainting with oils today. I think it's probably best to stick with one or the other, but at least I like this piece better now. If somebody wants it, I should mention that the stretched canvas on this one is a bit tipped, and the framer will need to do a little tapping with a hammer to get it back on the square to frame it.
