Tomatoes from the Yard - SOLD

Tomatoes from the Yard
Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $25 plus $7 shipping.

I've been having fun watching (and eating) the tomatoes growing out in my yard this summer. My models for today came in warm from the sunshine, and as soon as I get this painting posted, are slated for the cutting board, and a nice fat bacon and tomato sandwich, YUM.

....and yes, I'll fix the onion "nose" there. Didn't see it until I took the photo.

Field with Trees - SOLD

Field with Trees
Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $20 plus $7 shipping.

Quick study. I am craving sunny open spaces right now. Maybe it's how full the woods are behind my apartment right now. I can't even see the row of townhouses across the little creek bed, and mere peeks of the sky. So I paint open, spacious vistas instead.

Tiny Woods - SOLD

Tiny Woods
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $25 plus $5 shipping.

This one is little. Sometimes, though, the teeny ones are as hard as the bigger ones. Every stroke counts when it's this small. I had fun with this one, combining the goodness of acrylics underneath the oils, for the sky and the lavender backwoods. Once dry, it doesn't move, and you can paint whatever you want overtop.

SOLD at $40 plus $7 shipping.

My art buddy, S. and I stood on the side of the road, letting traffic avoid us, and took photos of the fields in Laytonsville. Fun to paint, lottsa space. Thanks for looking.

White Shed, Laytonsville - SOLD

White Shed, Laytonsville
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $45 plus $7 shipping.

My art buddy, S. and I went snooping around Laytonsville one day, and asked the "farmer dude" if we could take photos on his property. This was a cool old shed, and behind it, another shed at the end of the road. This is my first time using the reference photos that we took, and now I wish that I'd made the shed a little bigger, or maybe used a rectangle. Which only means, that you'll see this shed again.

Irises, Embraced - NA

Irises, Embraced
Watercolor on Arches Paper, 9" x 12"
Not available.

The last time I was working on a watercolor, I used this sheet as a test page for colors, and made the shapes into irises (sort of) very loosely. When I saw it again, I thought it was nice enough to turn into an actual painting, so I added (loosely) more paint, and voila. It looks like the leaves are cradling the flowers, to me anyway.

Folded and Bending - SOLD

Folded and Bending
Oil over Acrylic on Stretched Black Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $45 plus $7 shipping.

I've had this black gessoed canvas for awhile, and I knew I wanted to do something soft and dramatic on the black, but I wasn't sure what. I liked the photo for this one, with all it's nice color shifts.

Hillside with Trees - SOLD

Hillside with Trees
Acrylics on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $30 plus $7 shipping.

Still working with clouds, and a very simple foreground. Feels quiet, doesn't it?

Back Gate Revised - SOLD

Back Gate, Revised
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $15 plus $7 shipping.

I spent time with a private student yesterday, so didn't have time to paint paint. I decided I'd give this little guy another chance, and made the background lighter, changed the color of the fence, and the grass. I think it's better now. The plants that you can see in my border are a huge "butterfly bush" (the monarchs love it,) and some coreopsis from my friend J, which have spread beautifully.

Poppy Field, Summer Sky - SOLD

Poppy Field, Summer Sky
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20"

I needed something big and open and spacey, after all the roses. This satisfied!
Here's a version where you can see the texture. I'm pretty sure that you can click on these to see a larger photo. Thanks for looking.

Roses: Searching for Simple - SOLD

Rose One
Acrylics on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $20 plus $7 shipping.

Although I like this one, I decided it's just to complicated for my students. They are all beginners, so...

Rose Two
Acrylics on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $20 plus $7 shipping.

I think this one might work for them, just one color, with some white, and some blending. I think I will tell them to do a darker background though. I may still change this one. Maybe a nice cool grey-blue.

Dog Creek - SOLD

Dog Creek
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20"
SOLD at $55 plus $10 shipping.

I've been meaning to revise the 'Creek" painting that I did with a palette knife, since it wasn't quite singing.
I'm much happier with it now, and I've also dropped the price. This is a decent sized piece at a reasonable price.

Rosy Rose, Gallery Wrapped - SOLD

Rosy Rose, Gallery Wrapped
Oil on GW Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10' x 1.5"
SOLD at $40 plus $7 shipping.

This one will not need a frame, as it is painted all around top, sides and bottom.

Peachy Rose - SOLD

Peachy Rose
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $20 plus $7 shipping.

Okay, so roses are tough, probably because they are so complex. My students requested "roses" for next week's lesson, and I figured I'd start early to practice. If  I can do something in oils, I can make the switch to acrylics, and figure out a lesson for them. This one isn't entirely successful, but it has some appeal.

Acrylics Lesson Available

Distant Farm
Acrylics on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $20 plus $7 shipping.

Dappled Path
Acrylics on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $20 plus $7 shipping.

These are two paintings I am showing as step-by-step exercises in the finished Mini-Lesson on Acrylics.
The lesson is now available (finished it today, along with the two exemplar paintings) at $20, and will be sent to you in three emails. It turned out to be 17 pages long, so I split it into three parts. It gives some basics about using acrylics, at least some of what I've learned so far, and the shows the progress of these two paintings in stages, with color notations and simple instructions.

Send an email to me if you want a copy of the lesson, or either of the two paintings..
