Lilies in the Rough - SOLD

Lilies in the Rough
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping.

Usually when I do the white flowers, I carefully blend and correct and adjust. These are not. I just layed the paint on with bristle brushes, no soft blenders, and let it be.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Plum and More Plums - SOLD

Plums in Rose Bowl

Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"

SOLD at $40.00 plus $7.00 shipping

Single Floating Plum - SOLD
Oil on Canvas, 24" x 24" x 2" wrap
SOLD.

Plums today. The second one is a style after Margritte, do you know that artist? It's big, 2 feet by 2 feet. Done by request, and I'm happy to report that the collector is happy with the results.

Large Peony Grouping - SOLD

Large Peony Grouping
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 24" x 24" x 1.5"
SOLD at $225.00, which includes about $50.00 shipping.

This one is big, and pretty heavy with the wood on the back, so I'm including the shipping in the total price. Originally it had leaves at the top too, but I decided to take them out, since they were directing the view right off the top of the canvas. This one has the painting extended around the wrap, so will not want framing.

Strawberries on Plate, Revised - SOLD

Strawberries on Plate, revised
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 9"
SOLD at $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

I took the strawberries and revised this one a little. Took out the blue in the background, lightened the plate, toned everything down except for the berries. Much cleaner now.

Dogwood in the Hood - SOLD

Dogwood in the Hood
Watercolor on Arches Cold Press Paper, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $20.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

Detail below.

My neighbor was kind enough to let me clip a bit of her tree for painting, but the little branch was a quite sparse looking with flowers only right now. I added the leaves from a wild dogwood in the woods. I'm not sure that smallish flowers lend themselves to painting, I seem to have better luck with the flowers that have more "presence," like irises. But this was fun to do on a rainy afternoon.

Essence of Tulips - SOLD

Essence of Tulips
Watercolor on Arches Cold Press, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

Can you tell I've been reading Charles Reid books? Don't you love his watercolors?
This one (like Reid's work) is about the feeling of tulips, not about the details. Although I drew it "tight" I deliberately painted it "loose." I'm pretty happy with it, and of course, now I want to do more watercolors.

Pears and Bowls - SOLD

Pears and Bowls
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping.

Big, fat juicy pears, with bowls and stripes. Something a little more complicated today.
Thanks for looking.

Landscape Study after Elizabeth Tolley - SOLD

Landscape Study after Elizabeth Tolley
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $15.00 plus $10.00 shipping.

I just wanted a simple landscape yesterday, and followed after the instructions in my Elizabeth Tolley book, Oil Painter's Solution Book: Landscapes. An excallent book, by the way. The price of the painting is simply to cover canvas and paint costs, and shipping.

Single Plum Study - SOLD

Single Plum Study
Oil on Board, 6" x 6"
SOLD at $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

A study for a larger painting.

Taxtime Tulips - SOLD

Taxtime Tulips
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $55.00 plus shipping.

Ah, what a lovely day today. The sun was shining and it was absolutely beautiful out, I got my taxes done (such a relief) and I got to spend time with my dear friend from Massachusetts, Barbara. A treat of a day.

Flowering Peach Tree Plein Air - SOLD

Flowering Peach Tree, Plein Air
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $30.00 plus $10.00 shipping.

Have you noticed this spring how blue the sky looks behind a white blossoming tree? My neighbor tells me that her tree is a peach, and it's in full bloom right now, just gorgeous. It was too pretty today to be indoors painting, so here is this season's first plein air attempt. Ah, wonderful to be out! There are actually townhouses, bushes and woods behind it, so I had to fudge the background.

The Walking Path - SOLD

The Walking Path
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.

This one is actually about technique. I've alwasy struggled with "color harmony" and one way to get there is using a "Mother Color" throughout the painting. I've used Yellow Ochre here in most of the mixes. A technique introduced in the Webinar I'm taking, covered this past weekend. I think it works, yes?

Strawberries on Plate - NA

Strawberries on Plate
Oil on Canvas Panel, 6" x 8"
Not available, revised on 4/20/2011
As soon as I finished this one, I ate one of the berries, warmed from the light, and tasting like sunshine.

Plum Pair - SOLD

Plum Pair
Oil on Canvas Panel, 6" x 8"
SOLD at $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

In preparation for a large plum painting, I'm doing some small studies.

Peony Grouping - SOLD

Peony Grouping
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 24" x 24" x 1.5"
SOLD.

Done by request, a nice full grouping of peony blossoms.
I like the white one in the front.

Chamberlain Farm - SOLD

Chamberlain Farm
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 18" x 24"
SOLD.

A Pennsylvannia farm on the cusp of winter, some trees with leaves still clinging, some already bare. Done for one of my dear, old high school friends.

Yellow and Purple Pansies, NA

Yellow and Purple Pansies
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
Revised on 5/26/2011

A little more traditinal approach, but still not much blending. So pretty, these little guys with their yellow faces.

Winter Trees - SOLD

Winter Trees
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12"
SOLD.

This is another "homework" painting, done for the Webinar I'm taking. The idea was to learn how to depict bare winter trees, branches, twigs. Don't you love the subtle winter colors, and always a few oak leves clinging until spring.

Early Pansies - SOLD

Early Pansies
Oil on Canvas Panel, 6" x 8"
SOLD at $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

I've never done pansies this way, just swishing paint onto the canvas, without careful drawing beforehand. It's a fun way to paint, but I'm not sure yet about the way it looks, as opposed to a more careful approach.

Triple Sunflowers - SOLD

Triple Sunflowers
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $45.00 plus $10.00 shipping.

Sunflowers again, this time faced in three directions. Fun to do, in loose, swishy strokes.
