Purple Field Flowers - SOLD

Purple Field Flowers 10" x 13.5" Oil on Canvas mounted on board Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. A little made-up scene, winding around a corner on a dirt path, with a sunny field beyond. Mostly, I didn't want to waste the colors on the palette from yesterday's painting. I like this one though. I like the feeling of the coolness in the shade and the warm sunshine waiting. I'm experimenting with some new colors as well, Purple Madder and Purple Lake, both great colors. Thanks for looking. Hope you're having a really good weekend.

Farm on the Hill - SOLD

Farm on the Hill Oil on Canvas board 9" x 12" Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. Today I used the same farm that sits on the hillside right on our road, and a lot of artistic license, and came up with this image. Thank yous to Claudia-Marie (one of my google group readers) for encoraging me to alter the images I use to move towards more dramatic paintings.A kind and generous critique is always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Storm Blowing In - SOLD

Storm Blowing In Oil on Canvas board 12" x 16" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. This is another completion from last fall's painting class. We had been painting at Butler's Orchard as a class when a beautiful greenish sky and a distant storm started blowing in. Good blustery wind and a rush to break down the gear. Once I had everything safely stowed in the car, I shot a few photos, and started a painting at home. It basically got completely overpainted today, and it's highly textured as a result. The lightness in the sky has a tinge of green to it. Don't you love the light of a good dramatic storm? Thanks for looking.

Cows in the Shade - SOLD

Cows in the Shade 12" x 16" Oil on Canvasboard Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. This is a plein air painting I had started last fall with the painting class. The cows kept moving from spot to spot, so I clicked some photos for reference. Finished it yesterday and this morning, and thinking to do another, I liked the cows to paint. It's a different composition for me, but I kind of like the wonkiness here. Thanks for looking.

Johnnie Jump Ups - SOLD

Johnnie Jump Ups Watercolor on 300 lb Rough Arches paper 11" x 15" Sold at $15.00 plus shipping. Don't you love the name? Johnny Jump Ups. Me and my three year old grandson Max painted watercolors out front this afternoon. Yes, it was a good thing I'd almost finished before he started to paint, but I loved his marks with brushes and color. (Until he discovered the fun of making the water dirty by rinsing brushes.) But here are my results. The yellow in the flowers is much brighter than my screen is showing here, maybe your too. Thanks for looking.

Cattails and Marsh - SOLD

Cattails and Marsh 12" x 16" Oil on Canvasboard Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. Another really beautiful day, except for a fierce wind. I had to bongee cord my easel to a weight to keep it from blowing away. The view from the other side of the marsh, before the black flies and mosquitos arrive. Cattails are so cool. Thanks for looking.

Marshland One - SOLD

Marshland One 10" x 12" Oil on Canvas board Sold at $40.00 plus shippping. Today was so beautiful in New England that it would have been almost a crime not to be out in it. Tank top and shorts weather, and the "peepers" were going crazy in this wonderful marsh area. I don't suppose it'll be great for painting in a month or so when the mosquitoes emerge, so now is the time. But oh, it was wonderful today. So nice I did two. Thanks for looking.

Marshland Two - SOLD

Marshland Two 9" x 10" Oil on Canvas mounted on panel Sold at $30.00 plus shipping. The second marsh painting today. Just a glorious Sunday. Thanks for looking.

Barre Afternoon Shadows

Barre Afternoon Shadows Oil on Canvas board 8" x 10" Available at $40.00 plus shipping. It was too beautiful today not to go out painting for a little while. It didn't happen until later this afternoon, and how lovely, the shadows had lengthened nicely. I'm starting to "get it" on the reason for small paintings outdoors. Instead of taking the time to cover great spaces of canvas, you do small color notations with a "sketch" of sorts. This one may be a study for a larger one. I like the feeling of it. Thanks for looking.

Irises Yellow and Mauve - SOLD

Irises Yellow and Mauve Watercolor on Clayboard 8" x 10" Sold at $35.00 plus shipping. I had bought this clayboard at last years "Learning and Product Expo" for the Washington area. It's specifically for watercolor and/or acrylics, and I'd been meaning to try it out. Some things I like about it a lot, some not much at all. It does have a nice porous surface, and of course, mounted on a wood panel, it doesn't buckle. You can change your mind as many times as you want, it wipes back to white easily. Glazes are a little harder though than on paper, and it simply doesn't have the magic of paper. I think it would be wonderful for botanical studies. It doesn't need to be under glass, they say, so I'll spray it and it could be framed like an oil. Thanks for looking.

Moss Pond Overlook

Moss Pond Overlook Oil on Canvas board 10" x 12" Available at $35.00 plus shipping. Wonderful sunshine today in Massachusetts, blue skies and everyone emerged to be outdoors. So good to be in the fresh dry air again. A neighbor on his two mile walk told me that the name of the beaver pond is Moss Pond. This is looking down the hill towards the pond. Plein air painting is difficult, you wouldn't think so, but there is so much visual information: details, changing light, moving shadows, the sky changing. I admire those that do it well. Thanks for looking.

Sky Puddles - SOLD

Sky Puddles
Oil on Canvas mounted on board 9" x 10"
Sold at $40.00 plus shipping.

The road in front of my daughter's house this past week. During a break in the rain, sleet and sogginess, I grabbed my camera to shoot a few photos of the wonderful view down the road, and these terrific puddles. The rock walls are everywhere on this road, and the lichen on the trees is an artist's delight. The grandkids think it's pretty cool that their front yard view is on the internet. Thanks for looking.

Town in the Valley - SOLD

Town in the Valley detail shown, 9" x 10" Oil on Canvas mounted on panel Sold at $30.00 plus shipping. The two paintings of clouds today are done with the same palette, and are the same size. On this one I added a little town in the distance, the white spot might be a church steeple. (Lots of views of that in New England.) These two could be a pair, displayed together, but they don't connect together like a diptych would. The second one is actually the same colors as this one, but I color corrected this one, so it shows better. Thanks for looking. Hope it's not too soggy where you are.

Cloud Study 1 - SOLD

Cloud Study 1 Oil on Canvas mounted on panel 9" x 10" Sold at $30.00 plus shipping Two cloud studies today, trying to paint distance. This could be just about anywhere. Thanks for looking.

Apples on Yellow-Orange - SOLD

Apples on Yellow-Orange Oil on Canvas board 8" x 15.5" Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. This was a fun one to paint, since the glow from the paper in the spotlight changed the colors. The yellow apple almost disappeared against the background. I really like the way this one turned out, all this happy color on a rainy, blustery day. Thanks for looking.

Apples on Lavender - SOLD

Apples on Lavender 9" x 12" Oil on Gesso Board Sold at $35.00 plus shipping. Snowing today in Massachusetts, so it was apples to the rescue. I really like working on the Gesso board. I had a grandson waiting to eat part of the still life. Isn't that fun? Thanks for looking, and have a wonderful week.

Oma's Pink Glads= SOLD

Oma's Pink Glads Watercolor on Arches paper 12" x 23" Frame size 17.5" x 28.5" Sold. Bid on Painting here. This is a watercolor of pink gladiolas which I did for my Mom some years back. The glass broke and the matting was sheared in places. I am including the wood frame in the auction on ebay. New glass and matting will have to be purchased, but the frame goes really well with the watercolor, has touches of pink and off white in it. Detail of the painting and a small photo of a section of the frame are included. Thanks for looking.

Purple Iris Dreams - SOLD

Purple Iris Dreams detail shown Full Sheet 22" x 30" Watercolor on 300 lb Arches rough Watercolor Paper Available as an ebay auction, 3 days, starting price $75.00 plus shipping. This is a large watercolor of iris impressions. I would say that it is semi-realistic, not a botanical, but carefully rendered. My daughter tells me that people are in the mood for spring, color, flowers, and to cool it with the winter scenes already. LOL, she's probably right. This one could be done in a floating frame, all the deckles are intact and could be shown. I'm trying something different with this one, and have put it on ebay as a three day auction. I haven't learned yet how to do the simple links, so bear with me, and here's the long version. http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29296-2357-0?uid=128011575&site=0&ver=LCA080805&item=320103562705&lk=URL Thanks for looking.

White Boat Waiting - SOLD

White Boat Waiting Oil on Canvas board 16" x 20" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. Rain and sleet today in New England, so I stayed inside and did a study from photos of the beaver pond, with the little white boat that didn't get into the painting yesterday. While you miss the directness of painting outdoors (and I freely admit that I've a long ways to go before I'm a real plein air artist), you can take your time in the studio, and no wind to blow your easel over. Thanks for looking, and I join you in a respectful good bye to Kurt Vonnegut today.

Wauwinet Pond - SOLD

Oil on Canvas board
16" x 20"
SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping.
A sunny day, and warm enough for awhile to head down to the beautiful little beaver pond on my daughter's road. I'm not sure if it has a name, but we'll call it Wauwinet Pond. From here I could look over my shoulder to see the silo and farm from yesterday. What a spot to paint! Spring colors are starting to happen. This one is a little bigger, since I'm out of smaller panels for the moment. Thanks for looking.
