Daffs - SOLD

Daffs
Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 9"
SOLD at $22 plus $8 shipping.

A quick version of the impressionistic daffs.

And I thought this might be fun to show you. I have three "couples" of cardinals that come to my feeder, but it's not often that I see all of the males at the same time. And... a sweet little chickadee.

Snowy Woods

Snowy Woods
Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
Available at 3-day auction, staring at $15
Please click here to place a bid.

Today the sun came out, and made lovely shadows all thru the woods.
Lots of melting and dripping, since it went up into the forties.

Magnolia Revised - NA

Magnolia Revised
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
Not available, revised again on March 1, 2014

I hesitated to do it, but since I'm pretty much out of canvas, and this one hadn't sold, I decided to revise it, see what might happen. An experiment, and I figured if I mangled it, I could always use the canvas for something else, maybe a palette knife painting. I'm glad I went ahead and revised it, below is what it looked like before. More interesting now, I think.

Snow Day - SOLD

Snow Day
Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 9"
SOLD at $20 plus $8 shipping.

And the snow did come, crippling the entire region into a snow day.
Here's what I saw out my slider today, white above and white below:

It is the male cardinal's job to come and let me know that the bird feeder needs filling, and as soon as the snow stopped, he was chirping from the handle of the lawn mower. (Yes, I filled it.)
Stay warm, everyone, and I hope your power stays on.

Snow Coming - SOLD

Snow Coming
Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 9"
SOLD
Since I started with DPW, I have veered every day more towards asking "What do I think might sell?"
I had some good luck with a couple of auctions, and have gotten tensed up, trying for another "winner" Not a good way to paint. A couple of folks sent suggestions, and I appreciate that. I am going to try to:
  • only paint what I want to paint, regardless of whether it might sell
  • not repeat myself unless someone asks
  • slow down (a suggestion from a collector)
  • branch out and experiment (another suggestion)
  • work smaller, and do more watercolors (another suggestion)
Thanks to those of you who sent ideas for me to get re-inspired.
This is a loose and sketchy impression looking out my window, with snow predicted tonight.

The Perfect Day - SOLD

The Perfect Day
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $22 plus $8 shipping.

Even though this one is small, I played with it for over four hours. Someone had written me that I should slow down, and include more detail and depth. I think I changed the shape of the clouds five times. I made the sky bluer than I usually do, which I like. And I went for more of an olive color in the trees.

This one is just for "my" people.
Thanks for looking.

Muddling Through - SOLD

I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong with my paintings lately.
Something's missing...drama? ...bad edges?... I'm not progressing? ...Something.
Can you tell I'm not inspired, but still trying? If you have any suggestions, please send them.

Anyway, I'm muddling through, and trying to figure out what it is I need to do. Back to basics?
Meanwhile, looking at painters I admire, and today studied a new favorite, Marc Hanson.
I did two while under his influence, one looking at his work, and trying to see what I loved about it, and one not looking, but just remembering the doing of the first. These won't go up on DPW, and I'm pricing them as copies, since they are, more more than less. Just the cost of materials.

The Light Beyond -One
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD.

The Light Beyond - Two
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD.
Thanks for looking, guys!

Dappled Light - SOLD

Dappled Light
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at DPW 3-day auction, starting at $25

Like an idiot, I got caught up in a novel last night, and stayed up 'til 3 am reading. I knew I would pay for it today, and did. Got a late start painting, and I just couldn't get done fast enough. Funny how sometimes, that makes a painting turn out. Odd, but I like this one.
