October Colors - SOLD

October Colors 16" x 20", Oil on Canvas board Sold at $100.00 plus shipping. Using the same reference photos as yesterday's combination plein air and studio painting, I did a lager version of the same scene. Lots of color! The fun thing about a painting like this is that it's all dabs, and you just keep popping in small bits of color. The underpainting is red, so that works too, in little bits coming though here and there. Thanks for viewing.

Plein Air Hodge Podge - SOLD

Plein Air Hodge Podge Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16" Sold at $60.00 plus shipping. It was fairly late in the afternoon yesterday when I got out to paint, and I painted a little frantic. My usual system flew out of my head, and I was chasing the sunspots and the light on leaves before I even toned my canvas or blocked in my darks. Then I started to get chilly, and was having trouble with acorns falling behind me (it's a bear, it's a coyote!) So finished this today, and the photo was from another visit to the spot, at a different time of day, so hence the "hodge podge." Considering, though, not bad. Thanks for looking.

The Red Door - SOLD

The Red Door Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 12" Sold at $45.00 plus shipping. The last couple of days, I've managed to get out for some plein air painting. It's been gorgeous here. This was yesterday's, in the side yard, looking across the road. Thanks for looking.

Pile of Peppers - SOLD

Pile of Peppers Oil on Canvas board, 10" x 10" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. I really like this one. It's getting closer to the way I want to be able to paint. These were called Anaheim Peppers in the store, so I'm not sure exactly what they are, but very neat shapes. Thanks for looking.

Pomegranates Two - SOLD

Pomegranates Two Oil on Canvas board, 8" x 8" Sold at $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Pomegranates again, but without the plate. I keep thinking that you have to "do a painting" in order to "do a painting." When you get to the second one, you've figured a few things out, and it always seems to go easier. What I really liked about this one was the blue reflections cast up by the blue paper. Thanks, as always, for looking.

Pomegranates - SOLD

Pomegranates Oil on Canvas board, 10" x 10" Sold at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping I've never done pomegranates before, and love their shapes. But I wanted to have the tops show, and also to try this look down view. I've hardly mastered it, but for a first try, not bad, I think. Thanks for looking.

Plum Line Up - SOLD

Plum Line Up
6" x 12", oil on Canvas mounted on Board
Sold at $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

Using up the scrap boards I have left, and couldn't resist doing something else with these beautiful plums. I like how my light made the background go light to dark and the folded over paper in the foreground go from dark to light. Thanks for looking.

Simple Pears - SOLD

Simple Pears Oil on Canvas mounted on board, 6" x 12" Sold at $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping. The D'Anjous looked so good that I had to buy some, and then, of course, I had to paint them. Using up some of my scrap canvas. Thanks for looking.

Plums and Papaya - NA

Plums and Papaya
Oil on Canvas board 10" x 10"
Not available.

A little bit different viewpoint for me today, set up on a box, with an old bed skirt as drapery. I'm especially happy with the plums and the plate on this one, and still enjoying the square format. Thanks for looking.

Jill's Last Summer Bouquet- SOLD

Jill's Last Summer Bouquet Oil on Canvas board, 9" x 12" Sold One of my collectors sent me a set of gorgeous floral photos from her late summer garden. It was a pleasure to work on them this afternoon. What a garden she must have! Thanks for looking.

"Outback" Fall - SOLD

"Outback" Fall Oil on Canvas Board, 10" x 12" SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping. You know how people say "Oh, he's out back," when someone is in the backyard? I didn't know what to paint today, so I simply opened the studio door, and painted what is out back, taking some liberties with the landscape. Even overcast, the colors are lovely right now. Thanks for looking.

Big Sister - SOLD

Big Sister Oil on Stretched Canvas, 20" x 20" Sold via Ebay I am delighted with how this one turned out. It shows my two granddaughters, encountering the goats at the petting zoo, during our little apple picking excursion to Hamilton Orchards in New Salem, Massachusetts a couple of weeks ago. I love the way the two girls are standing, little Katie leaning in towards big sis, and Alex with her daring little stance. And the goat obligingly completing the triangle. Thanks, goat. And thank you for looking. (If the piece doesn't sell at auction, I will repost it here.)

Late Afternoon Field - SOLD

Late Afternoon Landscape Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 12" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping The light of late afternoon was just golden yesterday, so I took some photos and painted this one t oday of a field in Barre, with shadows crossing over it. Thanks for looking.

Carnations on Black Two - NA

Carnations on Black Two Oil on Canvas board, 8" x 8" Not Available The carnations were still good, so I reset them and tried again. Interesting viewpoint, isn't it? I set them on a folding chair next to me, so I could look sideways and down on them. This one seemed easy, I think sometimes you have to make a painting before you can paint a painting. The second one is almost always easier. Thanks for looking.

Carnations on Black - SOLD

Carnations on Black Oil on Canvas board, 8" x 8" SOLD. I have wanted to try a black background for a while now, and decided these carnations would be a good place to try it out. I love the way it makes other colors pop out, especially the red. I'll be using it again, I think. Thanks for looking.

Green Pears Squared - SOLD

Green Pears Squared Oil on Canvas board, 8" x 8" Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. I got some specially cut square canvas baords yesterday, and it was fun to paint in a square format again. I get to do ten this size. I like the green and orange combo here. Thanks for looking.

One at a Time - SOLD

One at a Time Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping This is how the road in front of the house looks right now, brilliant color tree by tree. Fall is a bit late this year, usually by Columbus Day things are at peak. But the weather's been so nice still that we are not complaining. Thanks for looking.

Hamilton Orchard Three - NA

Hamilton Orchard Three Oil on Canvas board, 10" x 12" Not Available. This is actually yesterday's painting, but our internet connection was down last night, and I couldn't post, so putting it up this morning. I worked on a still life that wasn't happening, so did a quick and swishy landscape instead from the same photos of the orchards. I do think my landscape style is evolving into a more daring application of paint, which I like. Thanks for looking.

Risky Apples - SOLD

Risky Apples Oil on Canvas board, 9" x 12" Sold at $25.00 plus shipping. I wanted to try a still life lengthwise and see what happened, and although I really like some of the brushwork, and the colors, the composition is just not good. What an odd piece. Unless we take risks and try new things, though, how would we grow? So I've posted this one, and named it after the sense of risk taking and stretching to grow. Thinking that it might appeal to someone. Thanks for looking.

Hamilton Orchard One - SOLD

Hamilton Orchard One Oil on Canvas board, 10" x 12" Sold at $45.00 plus shipping. This one is done from a photo, since it's been really gusty today. We went apple picking last week, and the kids enjoyed it so much. Hamilton Orchard also has a great little petting zoo, with goats and bunnies to pet. I took photos while they picked, and did these two today from that excursion. Thanks for looking.
