Forest Walkway - SOLD

Forest Walkway,
Oil on Canvas board, 16" x 20"
SOLD at $85.00 plus shipping.

This was the painting from August 11, this summer, and it went by. I thought I would post it again, since it's a nice one, and I expect that alot of folks were on vacation at the time. Thanks for looking.

Tree with Barn - SOLD

Tree with Barn Oil on Canvas board, 8" x 8" Sold at $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping. There are some days when there's so much going on that you're lucky to get a small painting done. I knew it was going to be one of those days, so just did this small study with the new palette colors I've been using. I've painted this tree before, it's a lovely old one-sided tree at the top of a hill, with a shape you don't get tired of seeing. Thanks for looking.

Red Romes - SOLD

Red Romes Oil on Canvas board, 10" x 10" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. A small change of pace today. I saw these big fat apples in the market, and knew I wanted to paint them. Apples are actually hard to paint, with all their colors and reflections, but I like how these came out. Thanks for looking.

Backlit Trees - SOLD

Backlit Trees Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16" Sold at $70.00 plus shipping. The daylight hours are beginning to dictate my painting time, since I take my photos outside. Using the Elizabeth Tolley colors again, which I really love, and a photo of my daughter's house through the trees in the front. I've tried to catch some of the backlit sparkle that happens in late afternoon this time of year. Thanks for looking.

Autumn Serene - SOLD

Autumn Serene 12" x 16", oil on Canvas board Sold at $85.00 plus shipping After doing two practice pieces, exercise paintings from my new study book (fabulous!) Oil Painter's Solution Book: Landscapes, by Elizabeth Tolley, a California painter whom I have long admired (I saw that she had a book out and scooped it up!), I did this one from one of my own photos. I used some of the techniques and color mixes that I'd learned from her book. The practice pieces turned out beautifully, and I'll show them on my skech blog. Isn't this lovely, it's the road leading to my daughter's home, minus the houses. Thanks for looking.

Dappled Path - SOLD

Dappled Path Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16" Sold at $65.00 plus shipping. One of the fun things about being an artist is that you have an excuse to answer questions like "Wonder where that path goes?" This path leads to a small, secluded cemetery, and I found the path at the bend of a rest stop road. I loved the flash of color at the end, and the dappled sunlight coming through the shaded tress. Thanks for looking.

Morning Fog - SOLD

Morning Fog Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16 " Sold at $85.00 plus shipping. This one was just so much fun to paint, I don't know why. I think maybe because I kept it "thin" for the most part, so that there wasn't a lot of paint slopping around. I like it so much that I think I might go at it again tomorrow, see how I can change it and make if different. Thanks for looking.

Light in the Trees - NA

Light in the Trees Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 12" Not available. It was very windy today, and a lot of leaves got blown down. The ground is orange and gold, covered with leaves. I decided to take a drive and shoot pictures, rather than do plein air paitning. But did work in the studio, and used one of my photos for this one. Fall light can be just so splendid. Thanks for looking.

Among the Maples - SOLD

Among the Maples
Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping.

I sat out in the maples this afternoon and tried to capture some of the magic, while chipmunks scittered about, and leaves fell on my head, in my paint, in my coffee. If you're a painter, then you'll be able to relate to the feeling: once you finish a painting, there's nothing you'd rather do than do the same one again, and better. Thanks for looking.

Rest Stop 122 - SOLD

Rest Stop 122 Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. This was late this afternoon, and I loved the way the light was just catching a bit of the grass, and illuminating the gold orange of the tree behind the pine. I wish I had had more time, but within about a half hour, the flash was gone. This is "undoctored", just as I painted it plein air, pretty coarse and hurried. Thanks for looking.

October Maples - SOLD

October Maples 12" x 16", Oil on Canvas board Sold. Saturday's painting, although blogger was having problems yesterday and I couldn't post this. We've got slendid colors right now, and I hope to post a whole series of fall paintigs over the next week or so. Thanks for looking.

October Colors - SOLD

October Colors 16" x 20", Oil on Canvas board Sold at $100.00 plus shipping. Using the same reference photos as yesterday's combination plein air and studio painting, I did a lager version of the same scene. Lots of color! The fun thing about a painting like this is that it's all dabs, and you just keep popping in small bits of color. The underpainting is red, so that works too, in little bits coming though here and there. Thanks for viewing.

Plein Air Hodge Podge - SOLD

Plein Air Hodge Podge Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 16" Sold at $60.00 plus shipping. It was fairly late in the afternoon yesterday when I got out to paint, and I painted a little frantic. My usual system flew out of my head, and I was chasing the sunspots and the light on leaves before I even toned my canvas or blocked in my darks. Then I started to get chilly, and was having trouble with acorns falling behind me (it's a bear, it's a coyote!) So finished this today, and the photo was from another visit to the spot, at a different time of day, so hence the "hodge podge." Considering, though, not bad. Thanks for looking.

The Red Door - SOLD

The Red Door Oil on Canvas board, 12" x 12" Sold at $45.00 plus shipping. The last couple of days, I've managed to get out for some plein air painting. It's been gorgeous here. This was yesterday's, in the side yard, looking across the road. Thanks for looking.

Pile of Peppers - SOLD

Pile of Peppers Oil on Canvas board, 10" x 10" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. I really like this one. It's getting closer to the way I want to be able to paint. These were called Anaheim Peppers in the store, so I'm not sure exactly what they are, but very neat shapes. Thanks for looking.

Pomegranates Two - SOLD

Pomegranates Two Oil on Canvas board, 8" x 8" Sold at $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Pomegranates again, but without the plate. I keep thinking that you have to "do a painting" in order to "do a painting." When you get to the second one, you've figured a few things out, and it always seems to go easier. What I really liked about this one was the blue reflections cast up by the blue paper. Thanks, as always, for looking.

Pomegranates - SOLD

Pomegranates Oil on Canvas board, 10" x 10" Sold at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping I've never done pomegranates before, and love their shapes. But I wanted to have the tops show, and also to try this look down view. I've hardly mastered it, but for a first try, not bad, I think. Thanks for looking.

Plum Line Up - SOLD

Plum Line Up
6" x 12", oil on Canvas mounted on Board
Sold at $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

Using up the scrap boards I have left, and couldn't resist doing something else with these beautiful plums. I like how my light made the background go light to dark and the folded over paper in the foreground go from dark to light. Thanks for looking.

Simple Pears - SOLD

Simple Pears Oil on Canvas mounted on board, 6" x 12" Sold at $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping. The D'Anjous looked so good that I had to buy some, and then, of course, I had to paint them. Using up some of my scrap canvas. Thanks for looking.
