There is a high-point hill at the orchard, where kids can slide on burlap bags during the pumpkin festival; to the side is the corn maze which looked like fun too. We met there to paint, but I liked the look at the bottom of the hill, where the barn was just peeking over the hillside. Another finish up painting, but I'm pleased to offer it. Thanks for looking.

When they say not to paint in direct and brilliant sunlight, it's advice to be heeded. I painted this one in the full sun, it's a gorgeous bush, with blues, pinks and lavenders all in the same bush. The neighbor lady was tickled that I was painting in front of her place, she kept coming out to check on progress. The colors, however, were way too bright in all that sunshine. So today I sat down and finished it up, softened the colors, and am pleased with it, all in all. Thanks for looking.

A little still life study that originally had two big mangos in the foreground, which didn't really sit well with the blues and greens. I painted them out, pulled out one of the stems and popped it in place of the mangos. Much better now. I like how brilliant the left side blues look against a dark background. Thanks for looking.

While it's snowing out, this was a pleasant painting to finish up. I had started it last summer and never finished it. It's from the same photo as the smaller version, minus the ducks. I was concentrating on trying to show the shallow water at the edge of the lake, and how you can see the silty bottom through the water. It's a larger painting than usual, and on stretched canvas. Doesn't it feel tranquil? Thanks for looking.

I started out with some red peppers, you'll see them painted this weekend, but it was such a sunny day, and the light kept changing the reflections on the surfaces that I set it aside until I could paint it in the evening. Did this one instead, isn't it appealing? I think I spent more time mixing all these wonderful subtle colors than I did actually painting. Nothing like the joy of all those creamy colors coming together in new shades. I shot a quick photo of the palette, so you could see what I mean. Thanks for looking.

Afternoon Shadows at Nash Farm 18" x 18" Oil on Stretched Canvas Sold. I was about to leave the farm when I noticed the lovely lengthening shadows across the road and grass, so quick snapped a photo. The trees in the foreground had already lost their leaves, and I wasn't quite sure how I would depict that, but it turned out okay, I think. A few finishing touches today to a direct painting from this past fall. Everyone else painting had chosen these wonderful vistas to paint, and I was attracted that afternoon to the look of these rows of leftover harvested whatever they weres. The Road Taken - SOLD

The Road Taken Oil on Stretched Canvas 11" x 14" This was one of those dabbly paintings, that you could just keep pecking away at. But I declare it done, well...maybe a few more brushstrokes here and there. And that's the way it goes sometimes. I used the limited palette colors for the red and green palette from the book The Yin/Yang of Painting, a wonderful book with a lot of good information. You get a turquoise, but no blue. You get a citron color, but no yellow. Interesting to work that way, and it makes for good color harmony. Thanks for looking.
