I'm pretty happy with the results, and I like the sense of airiness around the flowers, something I've had trouble achieving.

These were just plain fun to do. Watercolor messiness to begin with, with salt and alcohol inks to make textures. Once that dried, I "found" some organic shapes and added the acrylic background, and then either pen and ink or marker on top. Fun stuff!

The Bouquet is from a very colorful bouquet of flowers from the grocery store. There was a phlox sprig included, but it didn't last more than a day. The sunflowers I caught just on the cusp, but I still have the roses and maybe a dahlia variety? Not sure what it is. The pines study is a copy, so I priced it for materials only. I was interested in making one of those silver lined clouds, but it didn't actually work. Need to try again.

Japanese Irises - Turned Into Cards

This one is larger. And I tried a new technique.
I first drew the irises out in watercolor pencil, then washed over the drawing with the loose, runny background, just let it flow, and let that dry. Turns out that you can still see the watercolor pencil marks under the wash. Cool. Then I painted on top. The leaves are loose like I wanted, but the irises themselves got a little stiff, and I used some gouache to make the whites show up, All in all, I'm mostly pleased with it.

Misty Pines was a chance to play with painting mist, fun stuff, with a lot of backward paper clearing, painting clear water up into the pine trees. And the bouquet was what I could find at the local Acme. My cousin B will be tickled to see her old Dutch vase depicted very close to it's actual color.

I used a different paper for this one, and it acted a little differently than my normal Arches paper. In some respects, more adaptable, in some ways, it felt a bit "unstable." It was recommended by an online watercolorist that I watch on YouTube a lot, and it is cheaper, so I'll use up what I have, but I may not order it again. It IS 100% cotton, so archival, I think.

The End of the Daffodils - SOLD

This one involves a splashy under-painting, all loose with splatters, salt sprinkles, and Saran Wrap. After that was dry, I did my drawing with the last of the lovlies, and today they are pretty much wilted. One was left unshriveled for me to use as a model. Now they will sit on the back porch table, waiting for a warm enough day for me to plant them in the garden, hoping they will come back next year. If not, I've certainly had my $7.00 worth of beauty and inspiration from them.

Reclamation Art Cards - SOLD
