SOLD at $20 plus $8 shipping.

This is another of the reclaimed canvases, with two other paintings underneath. I did sand the surface down before painting on it. The painting is a combination of brush and palette knife. Done from an old Barre (Massachusetts)  reference photo. I like the sky a lot, so moody, an uncertain weather day.

Daisy Practice Painting - SOLD

Daisy Practice
Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 9"
SOLD at $15 plus $8 shipping.
Click here to Buy Now thru DPW and Paypal.

Since I want to paint daisies on a black gessoed canvas, which requires some confidence, I first had to remind myself how to paint these guys, and remember the mixing colors for the white shadowed petals.
So this is a just a practice piece, sketchy and loose. I think I could have let more shadow color show, but I do like the freshness of the whites.

Cherry Blossom Tree - SOLD

Cherry Blossom Tree
Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $20 plus $8 shipping.

The blossoms are gone from the trees now, but I wanted to paint one, and had a nice photo from the neighborhood, and used that. Without the townhouses behind it. There is another old painting underneath this, and I let a few little bits show thru.

Old Barn - SOLD

Old Barn
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $22 plus $8 shipping.
Click here to Buy Now thru Paypal.

I wanted a landscape today, since I knew I would be spending some time drawing my landlady's dogs (for Sketchbook Skool.) (Which, by the way, I have been enjoying immensely.) So I found this reference photo on Wet Canvas, and went to town on it. I liked the soft reflective patina on the barn on the shadow side. And I definitely wanted a summer blue sky, so used Phthalo Blue.

White Azaleas - SOLD

White Azaleas
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $40 plus $8 shipping.
Click here to buy directly thru DPW and Paypal.

I'm surprisingly happy with this one. Although I dragged my feet getting started on it, I knew it would be complicated. As it was, I didn't think I'd ever get it done today. I like how the vase was in shadow, and barely shows. Thanks for looking.

Azalea - SOLD

Azalea
Watercolor Pencil and Gouache on Cotton Magnani Paper,
Image Size: 12.5" x 16", Paper Size: 14" x 18"
SOLD at $35 plus $8 shipping.
Click here to purchase directly thru DPW.

One of the neighbors has a gorgeous azalea bush, that sits in a protected spot, but in full sun. It thrives.
She let me clip a couple of sprigs, and this is what I got. Yes, a drawing. There were a lot more blooms than this, but I tried to get the basic shape. Something a little different, and very time consuming.

Red Maple - SOLD

Red Maple

SOLD at $22 plus $8 shipping.

Outside again today, in the neighborhood. This time in front of a neighbor's townhouse, who runs a pre school daycare in her home. I had little ones around me explaining that it was their tree I was painting. And to show me, they climbed it. So cute, and they are wonderfully inquisitive. There was an entire row of townhouses, but it was hard enough just trying to do the one, so I opted to have it be a single.

The thing that attracted me, besides the lovely color, was the shadow, but in the painting it almost looks too blue, or maybe I'll just change the sky. Here's my model.

Disclaimer: There is one corner of the canvas (bottom right) that didn't fold properly, in manufacturing, and will probably have to be unstapled and remounted before framing. A framer should be able to do this.

Neighbor's Backyard, Spring - SOLD

Neighbor's Backyard, Spring
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $22 plus $8 shipping.
Click here to Buy Now thru DPW.

It was such a gorgeous day here in the DC area, that it would have been a waste to paint inside. So I got out my plein air gear, and sat in the neighbor's backyard. The sun was in and out, and I was amazed at how much color change there was in the red maple. Sometimes it looked deep orange and sometimes a dark purple red. Just beautiful. I want to try it again.

Flash Sale, Five Paintings to Clear - SOLD

Some older pieces to clear out today.  So, here we go. I should also note that I really don't mind if you resell these, as a couple of my collectors do, who have more patience to wait for a sale than I do. As long as you use my name on the work, I'm fine with that. Buy more than one, pay shipping once.

Loose Goose Hydrangea - SOLD

Loose Goose Hydrangea
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $22 plus $8 shipping.

One just for my mailing list. I had a bunch of pinks and lavenders left over from the cherry blossoms, so did this one to use up all that precious (and expensive) paint. I really just let loose with it. Can you tell?

Blossoms Abstracted - SOLD

Blossoms Abstracted
Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 9"
SOLD at $20 plus $8 shipping.
Click Here to buy Now thru DPW.

This is the last of my cherry blossoms, since they are drooping and dropping petals everywhere. I wanted to try using a different set of pink colors, including English Red.
I thought it might be fun to show you what's underneath, so here's a little progressive series. The painting underneath was an exercise for values and colors, with color patches at the bottom.

You can still see the lemon, bowl and mug, with color patches.

Progress, things are disappearing.

Still a bit of the lemon showing. I let a touch of it be the center of the last blossom.

Missing branches here, but almost done.

Cherry Blossoms Two - SOLD

Cherry Blossoms Two
Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 9"
SOLD at $20 plus $8 shipping.

Click here to purchase directly thru DPW.

It's such a deluge outdoors today, that my yard looks like a rice paddy. My poor pansies are underwater.
So I used the same blossoms as yesterday, but put a sky behind them.
(Even though they are still in the vase.) My mantra today was "Messy, drama, contrast; messy, drama, contrast..."

Cherry Blossoms, Maybe

Cherry Blossoms, Maybe
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
Available at $32 plus $8 shipping.

Click here to purchase directly thru DPW.

We have some lovely blooming trees in the neighborhood, which I've been watching so I could do some plein air work, but now it's raining and supposed to rain tomorrow as well. So no outdoor painting. I got to have my granddaughter this past weekend, so no painting over the weekend either, though we did some outdoor things together. Sidewalk chalk, took a long walk, climbed trees (her, not me), hide and seek...found a parakeet loose.

So today, I walked up in the rain and clipped a few sprigs of the blossoms, maybe they are cherries, I dunno.
And here you go.

Neighborhood tree I was going to paint.

Here's Kayla in a dogwood tree. She's a tomboy who loves pretty dresses. At 6, she's as rough and tumble as they come, but still loves to dress up. Here's the parakeet, below: (and K with chalk on her nose.)

Forsythia, Watercolor Pencils - SOLD

Forsythia, Watercolor Pencils
Watercolor Pencil on Watercolor Paper, 11" x 15"
SOLD at $20 plus $5 shipping.

I wanted to spend some time with pencils today, so pilfered a couple of sprigs of forsythia from the neighbor's yard, and used watercolor pencils on this one. You will have to click on it, to see the pencil marks, which are left deliberately.
