Glass Bottles
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
I've seen such cool paintngs of glass bottles on Daily Painters that I wanted to try one. Well, this isn't one of the "cool" paintings, but as a first try, it's okay I guess. The next one will be better, I promise.

Last Fall Painting - SOLD
Last Fall Painting
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.
I am really enjoying my Escoda Bristle Brush, it scrubs so well. I am probably abusing it unmercifully, but I do like the feel of scrubbing with the sides of the brush. This one was mostly done with that brush, except for the detail areas. It's always nice to find a toy you love.

Self Portrait Fall 2009 - SOLD
Self Portrait Fall 2009
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
SOLD.
I had a couple of good Veteran's Day coupons from Michaels, so picked up a mirror yesterday to do this with. The really tricky thing about a self portrait for a truly near sighted artist, is looking in the mirror with your glasses on to see, and then trying to take them off for the look you want. Hmmm. This is not too bad, the eyes got too big and they look a little buggy, but I'll try to fix that. I wore the scarf to try to hide some of my "wattle" LOL. Last time I did a portrait of myself, I saw my brother Bruce in it, this time I just saw glimpses of "Jansen."

Turban Squash - SOLD
Turban Squash
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $20.00 plus shipping.
You know how all the grocery stores have cool squash out for sale right now? Well, there was a display of these incredible squashes called "Turban" squash. I really thought they were cool, and had fun doing a really swishy painting of the one I bought. However, I can't imagine anyone wanting to hang a squash on their kitchen wall, so I've priced it low. (Unless, you have a red or yellow kitchen and want the pop.)

November Colors 2- revision
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
I liked the "bones" of the painting from earlier, but it needed some polish, so today I had fun smushing color around to perk it up. Ah, much better. (Actually, the color's almost gone, but it WAS beautiful.)

Large Red Passion Hydrangeas - SOLD
Large Red Passion Hydrangeas Oil on Stretched Canvas, 24" x 36"
SOLD.
This one is really big. I kept having to crawl around it to get to my painting spot, and I've been at it for a solid two days. But I'm happy with the overall look of it, and hope the collector will be too. I always procrastinate on the large paintings, just because they are a little scarey to do.

Muffins and Polka Dots - SOLD
Muffins and Polka Dots
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping.
I actually bought three of these muffins, and ate one, as I figured with an 8" x 8", two would be enough. I like this one with all the yellows, browns and oranges. You wouldn't think of muffins as orange, but when I went to paint them, it's the color I saw.

The Red Tree - SOLD
The Red Tree
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 6" x 6" x 1.5"
SOLD at $45.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
Detail of Left Side Below.
I am still playing with the lovely photo card that my friend in Massachusetts sent to me. Here I've simply played with a small canvas, and some of the colors taken from the card. The image wraps around and above. I'll paint the bottom when it is dry enough to handle.

Subdued Lavender Hydrangea - SOLD
Subdued Lavender Hydrangea
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $45.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
Sometimes my choice of subject is determined by how much paint I have leftover and what mixed colors. Today I worked on an impressionistic style painting (see below) and had loads of mixed pastels leftover. Aha, a lavender hydrangea. This one has nice subdued leaves, lots of grey green.

The Mother in Splendor
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $85.00 plus shipping.
Oh, yeah, this one is bright. My best friend Barbara sent me a card made from a photo that she took at a pond near her home in Massachusetts. It was too beautiful to pass by, so I did this one this afternoon. (Thanks, B.)

Halloween Rose
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10"x 10"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.
Okay, it's not a pumpkin. I tried pumpkins and I don't really do them well, so here's a rose interior, with touches of orange and pink. Happy Halloween, everyone! And thanks, MG, for the use of the photo from your garden.

Brush PLay Landscape - SOLD
Brush Play Landscape
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
I am more and more enamored of brush work, what you can do with it. Today I took a bristle brush, which I don't generally use, and just went at an imaginary landscape, swishing paint. I love the texture of thick paint, don't you? I am also intrigued with the lovely grays you can mix, so this one is pretty much high key with lots of gray.

Red Passion Hydrangeas 3 - SOLD
Red Passion Hydrangeas 3
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.
This is my last experiment with the Red Passion Hydrangeas. I think this will be the way I'll handle the larger painting. I sat down and actually drew these out tight on the canvas, sprayed the drawing with fixative, and painted loosely. This way I'll have a choice on a large canvas whether to go realistic in spots and loose in others. I like it, plan to do about five blooms on the larger painting.
