My girl friend and I ventured out early this morning, and saw the beginnings of tiny flurries. By the time we got home, there were a few inches, and messy driving. Now, of course, we have a nice pile of snow outside, and low temps are predicted overnight. Which all made me want a warm, summery painting. It's 80 degrees and sunny in this painting.

I loved the color of the red D'Anjou pears in the grocery store, and liked the color of the plaid dishtowel with them, but I'm not so sure that I should have put the pitcher in. I may try this one again, without the pitcher. What do you think?

This  is an experiment. I wanted to see what would happen, when painting dark on the black gessoed canvas. Yes, the cherries show up, but I think hanging on the wall, it would be quite subtle. This one will need no frame, since the gessoed canvas wraps around.

I love the reference photo for this one. It's a pretty place in Barre, Massachusetts, where you can amble through the woods. I've called it Cooper's Canyon, but I don't think that's exactly right. (memory isn't serving.) Anyway, I took the photo on a beautiful, cold winter's day, and have always liked painting this spot.

I've decided I really love pitchers and creamers, and have started a little collection (of one so far). This is my first pitcher, and I was thinking polka dots. Well, the white on white turned out to be a whole bunch harder than I thought, so this is a two-day painting. I really like how the pitcher turned out, though, and will paint it again, but maybe not on a white background.

The color in the main photo is fairly true. I used Photoshop and a GIF image, and I think it makes a big difference. The detail photo is just cropped in a simpler Photo editing program, and saved as a Jpeg.

Once in awhile, I enjoy doing something on the black gessoed canvas. The black in this one is not painted, it's the color of the canvas. The black goes around the edges, so you could hang this one unframed.

This is one of those kind you have to look at from "away."  Up close it's just a jumble of swishy strokes, but oh, what a fun way to paint. So direct, so carefree. What do you think? Does it work?
