Catcvhing the Glow 2
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
Available at $85.00 plus shipping.
Detail Below
Another one of the tranquil pond scenes with interesting light and clouds. The one I posted the other day sold fairly quickly, and so I decided to do another one. I like this one just as well, though of course, there are subtle differences. Thanks for stopping to look.
Catching the Glow
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping.
Detail Below.
The bones of this one was a painting done last week, called "Partly Cloudy." NOW I'm pleased with it. It just took some careful palette knife re-working to harmonize it, and push and pull the values. The sky has a lot of lovely subtleties to it, which doesn't really show well in the photos.
It's much richer now, too.
Hydrangeas in Pottery Pitcher
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 14" x 18"
SOLD at $80.00 plus shipping.
This one was first posted on July 6, and I was surprised that it didn't sell, since the hydrangeas are generally very popular. But then I thought maybe it was the odd colored yellow green background, which was a bit different, and maybe not fresh looking. So I've repainted the background, and softened up some of the darks in the cloth. Better?
Yellow and Lavender Irises
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
Every once in awhile, the irises call to me. This one went so smoothly, I love when that happens, it just floated off the brush. Started it last night, and finished it this morning. I wanted to name it "Oh, My Lovelies" but with keywords and so forth, you have to name it what it is.

Lemons in Blue Bowl
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping.
My cousins have a set of wonderful turquoise blue bowls, which of course, had to make their way into a painting sooner or later. Very fun having new "stuff" to play with.

Partly Cloudy
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
Revised on July 17, 2010. Now called "Catching the Glow."
I am a little ambivalent about this one. I like the parts of it, like the sky, like the water, like the trees, the grass, but it somehow could "harmonize" better. Still, a restful little scene, want to go wading? It's no real place, just an imaginary place. I'm thinking of hunting down a nearby lake this week.

Strawberries on Turquoise
Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $35.00 plus $7.00 shipping.
This one went easy this morning, glad I did it. Strawberries and avocados were on sale at our Girant this week. so that's what I'm eating (and painting.) Don't you like the drama of this one?

Gone for a Walk
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 18" x 24"
SOLD at $100.00.
Even though I haven't seen the ocean this summer (who knows, it could still happen) this beach painting is for an old high school friend, who has requested it. It's a composite, done from a set up in the back yard, some chairs and beach towels I found to shoot, and some older photos of the water and sky. Does it give you summertime thoughts? It does me. (The horizon is actually straight, but because it's a bigger canvas, I got the fish eye effect.)

Undone and in Transition
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD.
I have been discussing emotions with one of my earliest and most supportive collectors, who has encouraged me to try to put more emotion into my work. Even though I can't imagine anyone wanting to hang this half modern sketchy and half traditional painting on their wall, I thought I would try to show a little more feeling on the canvas. Apartment hunting and personal worries have left me feeling "undone and in transition." I'm actually rather pleased with how it looks.

Petunias Take One
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 8" x 8" x 1.25"
Not available. Canvas was reused on July 25, 2010.
I thought it would be so simple, but the color of the petunias completely eluded me. I have lovely oil colors in the mauves and purples, so I'm sure it was "operator error" and I'm determined to try these guys again, see if I can't get the colors and that velvety look closer. Meanwhile, take one. This is another gallery wrapped canvas, so no frame is needed. Thanks for looking.

Burton's Island Revisited
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping.
It's really hot here in DC for the past few days, makes me think of water; lakes, oceans, bays, being at the shore....so I paint it instead. I've priced this one low, since I need to renew my DP Gallery membership, which is the price of this painting.

Hydrangeas and Pears
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 14" x 18"
SOLD at $80.00 plus shipping.
Are you tired of seeing hydrangeas yet? Maybe I'll give it a rest. This one is pretty big, compared to my usual, and though it was a little different technique for me, I am happy with the results. Here you see the entire still life, as I originally set it up, but this time with a cool brown glazed pitcher. The pears finally made it into the scene.

Cherries Perched
I included the detail here, since it shows better the color of the cloth napkin, which is a teal/turquoise color, very neat with the reds of the cherries. Another piece with the brushstrokes showing. Nel
