The candlestick has a fun history. It was originally given by my Mom and Dad to my cousin as a wedding gift; the cousin whom I just visited in Georgia. She gave it to me for fun and to paint. I do remember my folks giving pewter and using pewter at home in the 60's, musta been an "in" thing at the time.

You'll be seeing this guy and some of his buddies again later this summer. My new friends L. and D. brought me a whole basket full of lovely beach treasures: driftwood, crab shells, conch shells and lovely little clam shells. So pretty. (Plus some bonus vases.) Tougher to draw than I imagined. But with beautiful greys, warm browns and golden tones, so appealing to spend a little time studying.

We have a rhododendron (I had to look that up, I always thought it ended in an "M") bush in the back yard, evidence that at one time, probably when this building was a single family home, that someone loved and cared for the yard. It's lovely, so I clipped a few blooms to paint this morning. The painting turned out simple and dramatic.

There are some lumps and bumps here, since I used an old canvas, a piece that didn't work out.
Otherwise it would be more expensive.

Our Internet was down today ( I heard it was more than citywide) and boy, did I feel crippled without my connections. Amazing how dependent we are now on our technology habits.
