On the way to Baltimore with H. the other day, there was fog, and we were noticing how appealing the farm buildings looked with the misty air. There were only quick looks, no time for photos, but today I just played around to see if I could come up with the "feeling" of the fog.

This was a tricky one, with the eggs and shallot being soooooo close in color.
And the bowl...hmmm, because of the lighting and reflections, it looked turquoise in some spots and greenish in others. Tricky, tricky. But I like the end result, and hope you do too.

The glaze is really quite beautiful. I got this lovely little bowl by trading artwork. What a grand way to barter for lovely things.

So I moved my standing lights around to produce some more drama. Cool looking, and I like the cast shadows, but it makes it a little hard to see what you're painting. But I got some drama.

Being nearsighted, I like to be able to get right up into a still life, nose to nose, as it were (without my contacts). To give myself a fresh start, I moved some furniture around today in my bedroom/studio - to get a little closer to my set up and my painting. Jerry rigging with cardboard boxes, a pile of MDF boards, a little ballast here and there. It worked for today:

The hydrangeas I saved from my brother's yard, and they have the smallest tinge of mauve still in them. For this one I used a bamboo pen with walnut ink, with touches of watercolor.

I am taking a space to rethink my painting style and strategy. So few of the winter paintings have sold, that I have to wonder what I am doing wrong, besides boring myself and my collectors. Hmmm, time to think about a new direction maybe. Meanwhile, some "other" kinds of sketches and paintings.

This one needs no frame, as it is painted all around top, sides and bottom. (Well, not yet, but the top and sides are done, and I'll wait to do the bottom edge until I can handle it, a little more dry.) The extension from the wall is 1.5".

Okay, I really love this one. I really like how the trees turned out; the winter colors of mauve, ochre, sienna and the touch of light at the tops of the pines.  It has a nice quiet mood, a little winter serenity.
