But because my new mechanic, Rafael (excellent reputation, heart of gold, devout Christian...I know, right?) says that my car needs a new head gasket, I thought I'd try a raffle on these two florals.

I repainted the "Fall Colors" from the other day, and I must say how much fun it is to paint with oils on top of acrylics. You have a nice underpainting, and you can refine and adjust to your heart's content. I really like this one.

Two examples for our Wednesday class. This is what my ladies wanted to do for our landscape lesson, and I figured I'd show them different sky treatments and different pine colors, one more olive and one more blue-green. I do rather like the sky in number two. Don't they look like they are watching over the valley?

The horizontal version is okay, maybe a bit big for the format, and it suggested the vertical, so I think that's what we'll do (as far as the pattern is concerned.)

I should draw your attention to the size of this canvas, since at first glance, you wouldn't notice that these are way oversized strawberries. The one on the right is about 6" top to bottom. I didn't want to waste all the red on my palette, so here you go.

When I opened my Pastel Journal email this morning, there was a little article by Richard McKinley about a technique he was using called "Sfumato," which apparently originated with Leonardo daVinci. I've gleaned that it refers to a blurred-edged, smoky kind of atmosphere in painting. No lines or hard edges. So I wanted to try it, just letting all the edges soften into each other. Kinda fun, I think, except that without meaning to, or trying to, my painting looks somewhat like the example.  I wasn't copying, I promise.
