Oranges with White Bowl

Oranges with White Bowl
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
Availabe at $70.00 plus shipping

Today I used the same still life, very simple, but used all the color I wanted. (I did cut a fresh ornage for the slices.) Actually, it was more difficult than yesterday's. More options, more color matching efforts.

Study in Orange and Blue - SOLD

Study in Orange and Blue
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
SOLD

This one is done only in two colors plus white. I chose Prussian Blue and a mix of Cadmium Orange and Winsor Orange ( a reddish orange color.) It's done with this artists network challenge in mind, (and up for winning is $50.00 worth of books from North Light. )

Also, my niece, Emily, is getting trained and preparing to serve on the mission field in Kenya for a year, and raising her support money. Her blog is here. She is very excited about becoming a dorm resident director at one of the mission schools in Kenya. The proceeds from this painting will go to her support, and I will chip in for shipping. Please consider what you would like to pay for the painting... I am suggesting between $50 and $100 to make a small dent in her financial needs. Thanks in advance.

Summer Daydreaming - SOLD

Summer Daydreaming
with Detail of Foliage
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $80.00 plus shipping.
This one turned out so well, I think. I really like the foliage on it, there's some nice touches of earthy brown (Transparent Red Oxide) showing. Farm buildings nestled across a grassy field, with a summer sky clearing above.

Pear Upended

Pear Upended
Oil on Canvas Panel, 6" x 8"
Available at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping

I know I said no more pears from this series, but just one more today. I like how it feels like you're looking down on it, as I was.

Strawberries Squared - SOLD

Strawberries Squared
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $45.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

Quick, before these strawberries are really dead and smushy, get a strawberry piece done. I painted for one of the new galleries this morning, so I raced the sunlight to get this done for the blog. (No lights yet, so I need daylight to paint.) I think it turrned out pretty well, in spite of rushng.

Creekside - SOLD

Creekside
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.

I really wish that you could see the subtleties of the colors in this one. It turned out beautifully. Even the digital photo does not do it justice. There is a real sense of light in the water and the foliage. There is a lot more "depth" of color in the water than appears here.

Dancing Pears - SOLD

Dancing Pears
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
SOLS at $50.00 plus shipping.

Didn't this one turn out nicely? I love the way they seem to be dancing in a line across the canvas. They are almost ripe enough to devour now, so you may not see these Forelles again. Then again... I am enjoying doing this small series. I think the 10" x 10" may be one of my favorite sizes to work on.

Forelle Pears - SOLD

Forelle Pears
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $35.00 plus shipping.

These Forelle pears are from South Africa, and when I saw them I just knew they wanted to be painted. Almost all of them were two toned, green on one side, red on the other. So lovely.

Louisiana Trailer Park

Louisiana Traler Park
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
Available at $75.00 plus shipping.

Coming around the corner, going towards my daughter's neighborhood, there is a lovely expanse of grassland attached to a trailer park. I have some photos of it, put them together and this is the result. (Along with the ever present ditch along the side of the road, for rain runoff.) The skies in LA really are quite beautiful.

Interesting news, too, from this end. I have been approached by a local (well, almost local) gallery, and though I've not signed a contract or contacted any of the other artists, it looks very promising. It's called Gallery 5800 out of Richmond, Virginia. I may be happily represented very soon.

Magnolia in the Hood - SOLD

Magnolias in the Hood
Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

Since we are on the 5th floor here (Silver Spring, MD), in an older urban neighborhood, the views out our large windows are full of trees and rooftop glimpses. Yesterday I turned my easel around to paint a little part of what I see out my window (generally I am turned to catch the light.) Great darks and lights, and I'm thinking of a larger canvas.

Graphic Magnolia - SOLD

Graphic Magnolia
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.

I really like the way this one came out, with all the clean shades of orange and blue. The mix of orange and blue also makes some neat grey colors. The background looks black, but it is actually a rich deep brown. Still practicing and playing with the idea of magnolias.

Magnolia Grouping - SOLD

Magnolia Grouping
Oil on Cradled Board, 12" x 12"
SOLDat $60.00 plus shipping.

This one is a practice painting for a set of magnolias that I'll be doing this summer. When I say that you have to paint a painting before you can paint a painting, this is the sort of thing I mean. My mind can't remember from time to time how to paint something, so I have to do it, before I can do it. Practice. This is one of the cradled boards, but I haven't painted the edges yet, and I may do them in a solid color, I'm not sure. The buyer can have input on the gallery edges, whether to continue the floral or have it solid color, no framing needed.

Path through the Pines - SOLD

Path through the Pines
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping.

I think the best part of painting is depicting light. A dab here, a dab there, and suddenly, you have the sense of sunlight dappling through trees. I love that magic.

Poppies 2

Poppies 2
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20"
On HOLD.

By request, same subject, same size as yesterday. A bit different in the drawing and execution. Never the exact same painting twice.
