Wanderings

Wanderings
Oil on Canvas Panel, 6' x 6"
Not Available, Revised on 5/5/2017

This one is to answer the question, "How much do you think you can fit onto a 6" x 6" canvas?"
In other words, how much detail? I know a lot of the artists on DPW do a LOT with such a small space, but I wasn't sure that I could. Maybe, just maybe...

Around the Bend - SOLD

Around the Bend
Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 16"
SOLD
Click Here to Buy Now thru DPW.

Below is a close up of a little part of the painting, so you can see the palette knife work.
Detail below.

Every once in awhile, a palette knife painting is just the slow down I need. I paint these with just the tip of the pointed small knife, a little tap tap stroke. I'm always happy with how much careful blending you can do with such a tool. Of course, the pieces take forever, but it's also a fun way to paint.

Fall Afternoon - SOLD

Fall Afternoon
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $25 plus $8 shipping.

This one has a little more toned down color than those I've been doing lately. Not quite as much of the bright yellows and oranges, though I love those as well.

Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $20 plus $8 shipping.

Overcast today with scattered colors. Reflects in the work, I think. Done mostly with a patient palette knife, which produces a lot of texture and detail.

Summer Greens off Wauwinet Road - SOLD

Summer Greens off Wauwinet
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 14" x 14"
SOLD at $35 plus $10 shipping
Click Here to Buy Now thru DPW.

The photo reference was actually of Grogan Road, an unpaved residential road off Wauwinet Road in Barre, Massachusetts (which I remember, since my grandson Max used to call it "Broken Road") (He was three or four at the time.) but I turned it into a walking path of sorts. Love the shadows falling across the road.

End of Summer - SOLD

End of Summer
Oil on Wallis Sanded Paper, 11" x 17"
(This can be cropped easily.)
SOLD at $15 plus $8 shipping.
Click Here to Buy Now thru DPW.

This was so nice to paint, I love painting on this sanded surface, even though it does tear up my brushes.
Does it have an almost fall feel to it? I used Cerulean Blue on this one, a color I generally don't use anymore.

Woods on Red Ground - SOLD

Woods on Red Ground
Oil over Acrylic on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $30 plus $8 shipping.

Here is a close up detail of the palette knife stroke:

This one started out as a lesson in acrylics for my private student, Kelly, yesterday. I wanted to show her how you could use a solid color (red in this case) as an undercoat, and let bits of the color show through.
Today I decided to paint over it with a palette knife, and sometimes that's just right. Using the very tip of a palette knife is almost like drawing with a pencil, there's so much control, and you can get such nice  variations, and color shifts. Isn't this one nice, in site of it being out of season?

Dappled Path, Zorn Palette - SOLD

Dappled Path, Zorn Palette

I've been having so much fin with the limited Zorn palette that I wanted to do one more landscape. There is no blue or green here. The colors are: Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Black Spinel, and White. That's it.

Dappled Light - SOLD

Dappled Light
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at DPW 3-day auction, starting at $25

Like an idiot, I got caught up in a novel last night, and stayed up 'til 3 am reading. I knew I would pay for it today, and did. Got a late start painting, and I just couldn't get done fast enough. Funny how sometimes, that makes a painting turn out. Odd, but I like this one.

Woodland

Woodland
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 12" x 12" x 1.5"
Available at 3-day Auction on DPW, starting at $40

I would have to say that this is my current favorite kind of painting to do, a landscape with lots of foliage.
Love it.

Light and Shade (along Muncaster Mill Road) - SOLD

Light and Shade (along Muncaster Mill Road)
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 16" x 20" x 1.5"
SOLD at $45

This is a biggie, and gallery wrapped, so no frame is needed. The landscape extends around the edges; top, bottom and sides. By the time the auction ends, the top and sides will be painted, and the bottom will need to wait for the rest to dry. I'm pretty happy with the way this one came out.
