Wanderings

Wanderings
Oil on Canvas Panel, 6' x 6"
Not Available, Revised on 5/5/2017

This one is to answer the question, "How much do you think you can fit onto a 6" x 6" canvas?"
In other words, how much detail? I know a lot of the artists on DPW do a LOT with such a small space, but I wasn't sure that I could. Maybe, just maybe...

I knew there was a reason I kept a bunch of tubes of Acrylics. You just never know.
I still have to work on subtle colors, since Acrylics tend to be very bright. Tricky ti mix correctly, I think.

Ablaze at Wildwood - NA

Ablaze at Wildwood - NA
Oils on Canvas Panel, 12" x 16"
Available at $25 plus $10 shipping.

Another version of the Burnt Orange trees at Wildwood. This time I tried to resist the urge to go at it with my palette knife, not entirely successful, but for the most part, this is a brush painting. Yum on the colors.

Through to the Field - NA

Through to the Field
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
Not available, revised on 11/13

These kinds of soft-warm-air days of fall are almost a memory now, but I'll stretch the season as far as I can.
Baby, it's cold outside! But not on my canvas.

November River - SOLD

It's been five days since I painted with oils, having taken a small detour to do a couple of watercolors. Just long enough to forget how to paint, really. I had to struggle with this one, scraping some area off twice to repaint them. I'm pretty happy with it now, but I wonder how that is, that you can forget so quickly, and be awkward with the return.

This is another painting from my new photo references, this one taken at a pace called Wildwood.
It must have been just breathtaking in person. Love this Burnt Orange color, offset by the greens.

I am calling these little ones "Fall Smalls" since they are each on 8" x 10" panels, and they paint pretty quickly. They are all variations of work I've done on larger canvases.

From October 4, 2014.
This one was sold, but my collector changed his mind for whatever reason, so it has become available again. Done entirely with the palette knife, this one is highly textured. You can click on the image to see it larger.

Back to the bright oranges and reds, even though red doesn't photograph well. A combination of brush work and palette knife in the leaves.

I was happy with yesterday's painting, so decided to use the same reference photo (from Rock Creek here in the DC area) and do it in a landscape format.  I like the sense of light and shadow here.

Overcast today with scattered colors. Reflects in the work, I think. Done mostly with a patient palette knife, which produces a lot of texture and detail.

I thought it would be an interesting exercise today to do to paintings from the exact same reference, same size, on the same day, back to back. Fun to see the differences. Can you tell which I painted first?

Fall Maples One - SOLD

Nothing says Fall to me like the changing of the maples. Such incredible colors every year.
I love to paint them.

Fall Reflections - SOLD

Fall Reflections
Oil on Wallis Sanded Paper, 11" x 17"
SOLD at $22 plus $8 shipping.

This is another one on the Sanded Wallis Paper, archival to 500 years. I do like working on this surface, but noticed today that it does seriously wear down my brushes. I painted my favorite brush to almost a nubbin.
Something to consider.
Note: Your framer will know how to mount this one before framing.

Reflections in Red - SOLD

I had just finished a larger version of this for a project I'm working on this summer, and had all the colors out, so figured I'd do a smaller version. It's coming!

A Moment of Brights - SOLD

A Moment of Brights
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $50 plus $7 shipping.

It's been rainy and grey and blah outside, so I wanted some good bright colors to paint. But nothing fussy, no buildings, people or exact dimensions. A Landscape! This is way off season, but it satisfied my need for some yum colors.
Thanks for looking.
