Today a small watery landscape, in order to study clouds and rocks, again...two things that I (still) don't feel so confident about in landscape painting. I've seen what painters who paint rocks or clouds really well can do, and it bears constant effort.

My niece, Cara, posted a photo from the Colfax Marathon the other day on Facebook, and I liked it for the sky and water. There was a small patch of blue showing thru the clouds, so nice. So this is a practice piece, to see me back into my well-loved oil paints once again.

Oh, I like this one, I couldn't tell you exactly why. Maybe it's the feeling of space, maybe it's the warm grasses in the field. Or just the overall sense of peace here in this big openness.
