Lovely Tree - NA
Lovely Tree
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
Not available, Gifted.
I am posting this one again, since my membership to the DP Gallery had expired (oops!) when I last posted it, so it had limited exposure. Isn't this one lovely?

Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.
Detail Below.
This one is another version with the same photo reference I used on Tuesday, but in a square format. I like this one too! It's a combination technique with a brush underpainting, and then palette knife over top. That seems to be my new technique for landscapes. I DO really like the control and the fresh colors that you can get using a knife, though it does take a long time to finish.

Varigated Lilac Pansy - SOLD
Varigated Lilac Pansy Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping
Another of the pansies, while they are still blooming, though they are getting "leggy." And of course, as long as they are still selling, grin. (It does figure into my painting decisions.) Nel http://nelseverydaypainting.blogspot.com/

Lace in the Treetops - SOLD
Lace in the Treetops
Oil on Stretched Linen, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.
This one is really nice. I started it with brushes, and concentrated on getting some good mid tones, which I have some trouble with, and then switched over to palette knives. I also tried to work a little faster than I do normally with the knife, and consequently, got some real loose, swirly strokes. These might also be my favorite colors for a landscape, the softer mauves and lavenders with greens. Thanks for looking!

Burnt Orange Pansies - SOLD
Burnt Orange Pansies
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 8" x 8" x 1.5"
SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping.
You know that pansy color? It's an orangey-browny-maroony color that is just so enticing to try to paint. This is one of those paintings that's so much better in person, the subtleties are lost in the photography here. The pansies wrap around top, sides and bottom, so no frame is needed.

Rainbow Apples Two
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
Reposted on January 8, 2011.
Aren't these fun? I painted the first one as I would have done an underpainting for a palette knife painting, but completed the masses. Then I wondered what would happen if I blended the colors, as though it were a "normal" still life painting. So I did a second one. The colors did muddy a bit, but it still looks neat. I was also thinking about what a great exercise (value study) this would be for an intermediate class in oils, which is something I'm thinking about for fall.

Shades of Green - NA
Shades of Green
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
Not available.
Detail below.
I did something a little different today. I haven't done this before, but have heard of painters who do. I used one of my Massachusetts photos on my computer screen to paint from. My laptop was far enough away that it almost felt like plein air painting, except of course, no changes in light and no bugs, but then no fresh air and bird sounds either. Another palette knife painting, which I am so enjoying.

I really do enjoy the palette knife paintings for landscapes. Domething about all the control the slow work gives you, and how nicely the colors blend together. Nice!

Red Delicious - SOLD
Red Delcious
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
Detail below.
And a quick look at how one of these starts, below.
A palette knife painting of three red delicous apples. Looking at this post, though, I'm hmmmmming about maybe doing a brush painting of how one of these starts, and then not changing it much. Would be fun, I think.
A bit of a modern art look to it.Nel

Papa Berry Revised - SOLD
Papa Berry Revised
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
This is an older painting, and I wondered why it never sold, and decided that maybe the white background was just too stark, so today instead of starting a new piece, I revised this one (and lowered the price) by changing the background. It is a little softer now, not quite so "barren." Thanks for looking.

Lavender Pansy - SOLD
Lavender Pansy Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
I had too much purple paint squeezed out and mixed from the triple set of pansies (on commission) to waste it, so another lavender pansy is up for grabs. Thanks for looking, and I hope you are all having a relaxing Memorial Day and have had a chance to remember those who serve, and those who gave their lives for our beloved country.

Cloud Study in Palette Knife
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
Available at $40.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
I needed a little change from all the pansies, which I love doing, but a change up is always good. So another palette knife painting, to see if I could do clouds. They really didn't work so well with the knife, but I suspect they could, so I'll give it another try sometime. Hope you are all having an enchanting Memorial Day weekend, with wonderful weather!

Iris Riot - SOLD
Iris Riot Watercolor on Full Sheet Waterclor Paper, 22.5" x 30"
SOLD at $130.00 plus $10.00 shipping.
Someone asked me recently what happened to my iris paintings this year, and all I can say is "I missed iris season." The irises bloomed without me. I did make a trip to my favorite gardens, Brookside, but they had very few this year, and I got no great photos. So this is a large watercolor to celebrate my favorite flowers, pretty much just made up. The background is simply paper, not painted. A lotta color in this one, and it's big, so it'll have some presence.

Tree Study Fast Knife - SOLD
Tree Study, Fast Knife Work
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping.
My challenge for today was to work more quickly than I have been with the palette knife. So this one has bigger marks, and is a little more flamboyant. I like it for the colors, with that violet in it, and the lovely orangey oak brown. Thanks for looking.

Pansy Set: Yellow Pansy - SOLD
Yellow Pansy
Oil on Panel, 6" x 6"
SOLD.
Well, the pansy paintings that I have been doing were so popular that the collector who grabbed the first tiny one asked me to do a set with various colors. I went to Home Depot looking for new pansies, was told they were gone, out of season, then stopped st some grocery stores, no luck. Finally, in front of Kmart where there were also no pansies, I asked a tanned lady studying the petunias, (who looked like a gardener,) whether she knew of anyplace where I could still find some. She directed me to the back, sale stuff, and yay, I found cheap big hanging baskets for almost nothing. Lots of colors, loads of subject matter. Thanks, Kmart!
So this is the second of a set of four, and then I'll do a gallery wrapped set of three. Thaks for looking.

Tree Study - SOLD
Tree Study
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping.
Another palette knife painting, this time a couple of trees. Leafiness seems to lend itself really well to palette knife work. This one was just plain fun to do, fom a part of a photo I took some time ago.
