Preview Hydrangeas - NA

Preview Hydrangeas
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
Not Available.

It's actually snowing outside my window this morning, not sticking to the roads, but still...snow!
But I've seen a few forsythia bushes in bloom, and warm weather and flowering trees are not far behind. HA. Let it snow.

Winter Sunrise - SOLD

Winter Sunrise
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20"
SOLD.

A bigger piece today, and probably the last of the snow paintings. Outside it's gorgeous today, deep blue sky, lovely sunshine. But I had this one drawn out and ready to paint, so I went ahead. I think it turned out nicely.

Women Walking - SOLD

Women Walking
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD

This one is for participation in a show of Walking Women.
I liked the facial expressions in my reference photo, and I was trying for a tentative, somewhat hesitant fragility in the older woman. Aren't they sweet?

Village Views: Across the Road - SOLD

Village Views: Across the Road, in Snow
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD

I took advantage of the pack of snow and a brilliantly sunny day to snap some photos. This is just across the road from the trailer where I am living now. The "popcorn tree" was covered with snow, and looked like an spring tree in bloom. Just lovely!

Don't forget to Spring Forward tonight! (Either that, or be late for church!)

A Corner of Winter - SOLD

A Corner of Winter
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $15 plus $10 shipping.

These are today's colors, while icicles drip and the sun does it's work outside, melting our pack of snow.
And a little "village view" below. The tree looks like it's in bloom with snow.

Simple Serene - SOLD

Simple Serene
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

It was time. My Elizabeth Tolley book had been missing for a long time, and of course, I didn't remember who I lent it to. But just before the move, it came back to me. I'd been itching to go thru a painting once again, to relearn her color mixes. I did not remember them all. Isn't this a sweet one? Using ET's steps and color mixes.

That Certain Light - SOLD

That Certain Light
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20"
SOLD.

This one would be plain without the dramatic stream of light, which is what I was attracted to in the reference photo. A little drama in the sky, and that certain light, late afternoon.

Egret Taking Flight - SOLD

Egret
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $20 plus $10 shipping.

The challenge this week at DPW is to try to capture the "spirit" of a bird, and the photo provided was my reference for this guy. You've probably seen them, the big shwoosh that gets them up and going.

The Shoveler, Village Views 1 - SOLD

The Shoveler
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD

This is number one of what I plan to make into a series called "Village Views," since the trailer park is really so like a tiny village. There is a church near enough that I was able to walk to the service yesterday, and a couple at church who also live here in the park gave me a ride home. There is a little convenience store, with a PO in one corner, to which I can also walk. This guy was chopping at some ice chunks with his shovel, and we spoke, but he didn't catch me snapping his photo. Of course, there are many more trailers than I've shown here, but you get the idea.

Glimpses Thru Green - SOLD

Glimpses Thru Green
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD

I am finally settled enough, though not entirely unpacked yet, to sit down and paint. That's a YAY!
I am thinking about a series of trailer park paintings, since this is like a cute little village, and there are some lovely views, with the light changing always. For now, working from an old Massachusetts photo, wondering if this old abandoned house is still standing.

Oh, and here's a glimpse of my new studio, not a corner, but a room (yee-haw!):

Thanks everyone, for standing by while I was in transition.
Hard move, in a snow storm, but I had lots of wonderful help!

Winter Move

You haven't been seeing any paintings from me, since there is a move going on. My apartment is now full of boxes, and I'm filling more as I go. I'll be living in a cozy little trailer park, doing housekeeping for the owner, in exchange for rent. It's taking awhile, since I have to first clean the new place, before moving in.

Which brings me to this: If any of you would like to contribute a couple of dollars to the "Help-Nel-get-settled-so-she-can-paint Fund" it would be a great boon to me. While I'm not painting, I'm not earning either, and things are getting crunchy, so I'm being bold and asking for help. Some of my friends, including my dear landlady here, are helping me with cleaning. So it will get done, eventually. And then, YAY, I get to paint again! Can't wait. Thanks, everyone.

Winter Sketch - SOLD

Winter Sketch in Oils
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $12 plus $10 shipping.

This was done from my imagination, just slopping away and enjoying the winter colors. Really, if you can get past the cold, the colors in winter are so beautiful. This one will take a while to dry. You'll see why in the close up detail below:

The paint is laid on thick in lots of spots.

Winter Glow - SOLD

Sometimes when you have a canvas that doesn't work as well as you'd like, the proper choice is to "mess it up." Or go at it with a palette knife and an attitude. This is one such. It used to look like this:

Now it's more interesting and messy, and intimate. I exaggerated the orange, and I'm glad I did.
Fun to see the changes, I think.

Little Winter Scene - SOLD

Little Winter Scene
Oil on Canvas Panel, 10" x 8"
SOLD at $17 plus $10 shipping.

I know I need to do more work on the still life, where I find the composition and arranging of the still objects a real challenge. Landscapes still feel so much more comfortable for me; colors, strokes, and composition so much easier. Isn't this a sweet little one?

Shadow Patterns - SOLD

Shadow Pattens
Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $15 plus $10 shipping.

I wasn't so much interested in the strawberries, as I was in the lovely shadows they were casting.
I wanted to do this one "directly" without all the fussing and blending I usually do with still life. It's definitely painterly, as they say of this kind of work.

January Fire - SOLD

January Fire
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 22" x 28"
SOLD at $75 for Pick Up

I had this large canvas, and decided on something colorful, and I'm pretty happy with this one. The only problem with a piece this large is the shipping. So I'm trying this, no shipping, but to sell this one to someone local, who can pick it up. Appealing, isn't it?
