Interesting new idea from the "Essentials of Painting Skies" Webinar yesterday: paint a sky in the negative. I first painted the entire sky in pink, white, orange acrylic and let that dry, then painted in the blue overtop in oils with negative painting. Very cool.

I liked both of these well enough to revise them and re-post. On the Maples, I added more color, and fixed the "river" that was running through the middle. Also I changed the shapes are directions of the trunks. On the Sunday Drive piece, I added the ending of the fence, and put leaves in the road. There was too much road before. They both look better to me.

I kept looking at this one in a mirror as I was working on it, and realizing that most of my cloudy skies aren't dark enough. I kept adding richer color to it. You'd think that everything is a sky should be light, but not so much.

Hot Red Irises, yeehaw. And yes, they are almost the same. I decided to try out painting them in tandem, one petal on one and the same petal on the second and so on. It worked out nicely, as they each needed drying time, and I could switch back and forth.
Peony Sketch - SOLD

I'm not thrilled with this one. I wanted to see if I could do a loose peony, instead of drawing it out carefully, each little petal and crimp, but as it turns out, a sketch doesn't exactly do it, and I like the careful ones better. But I think it turned out well enough to save, anyway.
