String of Lights 4 - SOLD

String of Lights 4 Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD. I had a request for two of these, which never got shown on the blog, so I thought I'd pop one of them up today. Nice to show off a little, I know you'll indulge me. Nothing new today. I have posted some more Metro sketches on my sketching blog, the link is on the sidebar.

Winter Snow...More - SOLD

Winter Snow...More Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $35.00 plus shipping. We've had another snowstorm, and still drifting. The world is white, with shades of umber and grey, just lovely, as long as you have power and heat inside and don't have to go anywhere.

Cows in Landscape - SOLD

Cows in Landscape Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. There are many blogs and sites that one can use for resources. I'm thinking of the Different Strokes project by Karin Jurick. This one is from The Monthly Sketch Project blog, which I just recently discovered through a mention by someone in Kate Johnson's alumni group. I really liked the photo, and moved some cows around for this quick oil sketch.

Watercolor Peonies - SOLD

Watercolor Peonies
Watercolor on Arches paper, 22" x 30"
Image area 21" x 28"
SOLD at $150 plus shipping. Detail shown.
That's a lot of petals. Painted on a full sheet of watercolor paper, mostly during our snowstorm of February 2010 in the DC area. I've cropped the top version, but it can be matted in closer still.

Winter Peonies Full Sheet WIP

Winter Peonies, Watercolor, WIP
Watercolor on Full Sheet arches 140 lb paper, 22" x 30"
I generally don't show a work in progress, but this one has so many shivery hours into it, that I wanted to at least show that I have been working through our snow storm! A petal here, turn, a petal there, turn... I think I might paint some background color along one bottom edge, and add more leaves, but this is how it stands now. It's a big one.

And It Snowed...SOLD

And It Snowed... Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $35.00 plus shipping. No heat, no lights, no Internet, no radio or TV for news...and no hot water, except what we could boil on the gas stove. Nobody going anywhere, and lots of busy shovels. Huddled under blankets and using candles when the evening came. Makes you appreciate your electricity when it comes back on. I did manage to bundle up, turn my easel to the window, and paint this (with trips to the stove for heating fingers over the boiling water pots.) Today, of course (Monday) it's gorgeous, but it sure gets old quick, trying to stay warm. A pioneer I am not!

The White Carnation - SOLD

The White Carnation Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 8" SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping. This is another older painting that just needed brightening. I've always liked the drama and odd composition in it.

Fruit Bowl on the Edge - SOLD

Fruit Bowl on the Edge Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping. Of course I didn't paint this one tonight, just put the stems in a minute. This was a Sunday afternoon painting that didn't quite get done. I like this one, just for the sake of the little flash of light on that front pear.

Colored Hydrangea - SOLD

Colored Hydrangea Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. I keep trying this Red Passion Hydrangea, and I think eventually I'm going to have to try painting it petal by petal, see what happens with that. It's more like drawing I think, than painting, but I can see it coming.

Simple Pear - SOLD

Simple Pear Oil on Canvas Panel, 6" x 8" SOLD at $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping. I've been sick this week, and thought it was a cold, but it's become a little more perplexing than that. Fever, chills, sharp pain in my ribs, who knows? But I felt some better this afternoon, so felt up to a small piece, and this is what I got done. No great attempts, just a little finger back in the pie.

Brown Eggs Whichaway

Vertical is SOLD. Brown Eggs Whichaway One and Two Oil on Canvas Panel, 6" x 8" each Available at $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping, each. Brown eggs are not really brown. They have pinks, purples, oranges, reds, yellows, and this frosted look to some of them, but not all. They can be different colors too, from egg to egg. Really quite beautiful. I posted some of my Metro people sketches to my other blog, if you are interested in seeing them. It's Nel's Art Marks. Stop by if you'd like, and take a peek.

Magnolias, Apples, and Vase - SOLD

Magnolias, Apples and Vase Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. I had no idea what to paint today, just grabbed some stuff on hand and put it together. It's an odd combination, I'll admit. I do like the lines of it though. The first painting of the weekend seems to want to be loose, I'm not sure why. This one is, and the first from last weekend was also. Maybe it's a warming up thing.

Pink Iris on Green - SOLD

Pink Iris on Green Oil on Canvas Panel, 10" x 12" SOLD at $35.00 plus shipping. Another older painting, revamped. I changed the background, since I thought it was too bright before, and brightened and intensified the bloom colors. Much better.

Pears and Stripes - SOLD

Pears and Stripes Oil on Stretched Canvas, 9" x 12" SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping. Isn't this one fun? It sounds a little like "Stars and Stripes" for the title, but yup, it's pears. It's another older one, changed up a little, a bit more "punch" now. I have always liked it, but now it looks even better.

Orchard Road in Summer - SOLD

Orchard Road Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14" SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping. A lot of new color in this one, and I think it's more interesting now.

January Abstract - SOLD

January Abstract Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 6" x 6" x 1.5" SOLD at $30.00 Wiht my back to the window, and just turning around every few minutes to glimpse the colors outside, this is just an impression of the feeling of January, very quick and very splashy. It's painted around the sides, top and bottom, would need no frame.

Experimental Landscape - SOLD

Experimental Landscape Oil on Canvas Panel, 10" x 10" SOLD at $35.00 plus shipping. I was reading recently about local color and scattered color, and how in painting, you should try to observe all the variouscolors inside a local color. Clint Watson mentioned it in passing in his Fine Art Views newsletter recently, and it startled me, I had to go back and read that again. Oh. Oh. You mean don't paint just the local color. Huh. So I've been thinking on that, and played today with this old landscape, experimenting a bit.

Fruit on Patterned Fabric - SOLD

Fruit on Patterned Fabric Oil on Canvas Panel, 10" x 12" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. Isn't this one dramatic? I remember doing it, and having fun with the fabric pattern. I can see it in a Mediterranean style room, or in a modern room with a lot of black and white furnishing and decor. I've got it priced low, since it isn't revised, and is an older piece.

Overcast Field - SOLD

Overcast Field Oil on Gessoed Panel, 9" x 12" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. Just a simple pastoral, with a sketchy feel to it. I do like the shadowed effect on the ground.

Path Up the Hill - SOLD

  • Path Up the Hill
  • Oil on Canvas Panel, 12" x 12"
  • SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping.

This is one of those paintings that I wish you could see in person. The photo here doesn't really show the layers and subtle complexities. (Can you tell I'm happy with this one?) It's an older piece revised, much better now, and worthy, I think.
