It's an odd combination, I'll admit. I do like the lines of it though. The first painting of the weekend seems to want to be loose, I'm not sure why. I was reading recently about local color and scattered color, and how in painting, you should try to observe all the variouscolors inside a local color. Clint Watson mentioned it in passing in his Fine Art Views newsletter recently, and it startled me, I had to go back and read that again. Oh. Oh. You mean don't paint just the local color. Huh. So I've been thinking on that, and played today with this old landscape, experimenting a bit.

This is one of those paintings that I wish you could see in person. The photo here doesn't really show the layers and subtle complexities. (Can you tell I'm happy with this one?) It's an older piece revised, much better now, and worthy, I think.

It's like the shoemaker with his barefoot children, you can't have your own paintings hanging in your house, except by default, of course. I am liking my new temp job, and find myself grinning on the Metro, for no reason whatsoever. Other tired, yawning commuters must think I'm a little "off."

I don't plan on much painting time until the weekend. But lots of time to let ideas "stew."

I'm not much of one for making goals and resolutions, but I do feel that I need to stretch a lot this coming year with my painting. Really want to get some workshops and instruction under my belt. I've gotten a little stagnant lately. Need to move on, move on, grow, evolve, do more, do better...you know that feeling. Here's to a great year for all of us!
