Sandy Creek - SOLD

Sandy Creek Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 20" SOLD at $85.00 plus shipping. This one is bigger than what I've been doing lately, but I really felt like a creek scene today, and didn't have a medium size canvas. I love the two major colors here, Caput Mortem Violet (dried blood color) and Turquoise plus turquoisey greens. A couple of my two current favorites.

Orchid with Pastel Colors - SOLD

Orchid with Pastel Colors Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. So, is there football on the TV at your house? Are there good Thanksgiving smells wafting from the kitchen? All kinds of goodness of the day. I hope you are enjoying your day, wherever you may be today, and are blessed. This one has nothing at all to do with Thanksgiving. I wanted to try a very loose floral, since mine are always so tight and careful. Used my magic Escoda brush for the whole painting. The background is also loose, all the leftover cloud colors from the Chase paintings. It's kind of cool, isn't it?

Thanksgiving Magnolia Revised on 11.29

Thanksgiving Magnolia Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" Not Available at $65.00 plus shipping (see 11.29 post for revised version) Now I don't know if there is any such flower as this, probably not. But I picked up this rich, velvety stem at Michaels and wanted to try painting it. The color of it is actually more "winey" than red, but it isn't going anywhere and I can try it again anytime. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I am truly thankful for all of you.

Chase Copy 2 - SOLD

Chase Copy 2
(the bottom one is color corrected, but a bit too intense actually) Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD. This is another version of the painting from this morning. It is going to a beach house, (yay!) where I'm sure it will fit right in.

Chase Copy - SOLD

Chase Copy Shinnecock Hills, William Merritt Chase, c. 1895 Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping. Do you know the American Impressionist painter, William Merritt Chase? I didn't at all (which is no indication of his fame, really) but he was a teacher of Georgia O'Keefe, and his Long Island landscapes are just gorgeous. You can see some of his work here. The one I copied ( a portion of it) is called Shinnecock Hills and it's at the Smithsonian. It's just beautiful, full of ochres, sienna, beautiful greens, lovely. I will be studying his work more, I really didn't get it quite right.

November Magnolia - SOLD

November Magnolia Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. It's been awhile since I did a magnolia, so here's one more, a November Magnolia. Double light source made this one tricky, but since it's rainy and overcast today, I needed the lights.

Poppy Copy - SOLD

Poppy Copy, after Georgia O'Keefe, Oriental Poppies, 1927 Oil on Stretched Canvas, 14" x 18" SOLD at $55.00, includes shipping. I love Georgia O'Keefe's work, and such an interesting woman. I do think that there's no better way to study a painter's work than taking the time to study it closely and copying. This one is among my favorites. Just studying closely how she blended her colors, all those sensual lines...yum.

November Apples - SOLD

November Apples Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10" SOLD at $40.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Ever notice how shiny and reflective the skins on the Red Delicious apples are? I was thinking to do the reflections like I would a water reflection, skimming across the top with a soft brush loaded with thinned paint. It didn't exactly work, but I did try to show how the skins reflect light.

Just an Apple 2 - Gifted

Just an Apple 2 Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" Gifted. A Red Delicious apple, simple and clean. I always enjoy painting the apples, even though most of my deep reds are transparent and hard to manage.

River Rocks - SOLD

River Rocks Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" SOLD at $30.00 plus shipping. Pocket rocks, from Michael's. Aren't they cool? I like rocks anyway, so this one delights me, and I hope you enjoy it too.

Beach Folks - SOLD

Beach Folks Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. I've had this one drawn out for awhile, (I've done it before) remembering that it was fun to paint. This time it seemed hard to paint, all those little areas of paint, all those stripes. I do like the water in this one. Funny how your attitude makes such a difference, I've been in a bit of a slump, which probably makes everything harder to do.

Little Tyke - SOLD

Little Tyke Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10" Done by Request, SOLD. The last of my request paintings, and I think I'm caught up. This little guy was heading into preschool, the backpack is almost as big as he is!

Dark Iris - NA

Dark Iris
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
Not Available, Revised 1/8/2010.

It's been raining here for the last five days or so, overcast, wet and mucky. I've had the doldrums, and decided an iris was just the ticket. I can usually make myself feel better with an iris. Today we have some sunshine, ahhh, what a relief. So this is my "out of the doldrums iris."

Glass Bottles - SOLD

Glass Bottles Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8" SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping. I've seen such cool paintngs of glass bottles on Daily Painters that I wanted to try one. Well, this isn't one of the "cool" paintings, but as a first try, it's okay I guess. The next one will be better, I promise.

Last Fall Painting - SOLD

Last Fall Painting Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14" SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping. I am really enjoying my Escoda Bristle Brush, it scrubs so well. I am probably abusing it unmercifully, but I do like the feel of scrubbing with the sides of the brush. This one was mostly done with that brush, except for the detail areas. It's always nice to find a toy you love.

Self Portrait Fall 2009 - SOLD

Self Portrait Fall 2009 Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16" SOLD. I had a couple of good Veteran's Day coupons from Michaels, so picked up a mirror yesterday to do this with. The really tricky thing about a self portrait for a truly near sighted artist, is looking in the mirror with your glasses on to see, and then trying to take them off for the look you want. Hmmm. This is not too bad, the eyes got too big and they look a little buggy, but I'll try to fix that. I wore the scarf to try to hide some of my "wattle" LOL. Last time I did a portrait of myself, I saw my brother Bruce in it, this time I just saw glimpses of "Jansen."

Turban Squash - SOLD

Turban Squash Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 10" SOLD at $20.00 plus shipping. You know how all the grocery stores have cool squash out for sale right now? Well, there was a display of these incredible squashes called "Turban" squash. I really thought they were cool, and had fun doing a really swishy painting of the one I bought. However, I can't imagine anyone wanting to hang a squash on their kitchen wall, so I've priced it low. (Unless, you have a red or yellow kitchen and want the pop.)

November Colors 2 - SOLD

November Colors 2- revision Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. I liked the "bones" of the painting from earlier, but it needed some polish, so today I had fun smushing color around to perk it up. Ah, much better. (Actually, the color's almost gone, but it WAS beautiful.)

Large Red Passion Hydrangeas - SOLD

Large Red Passion Hydrangeas
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 24" x 36"
SOLD.

This one is really big. I kept having to crawl around it to get to my painting spot, and I've been at it for a solid two days. But I'm happy with the overall look of it, and hope the collector will be too. I always procrastinate on the large paintings, just because they are a little scarey to do.

Muffins and Polka Dots - SOLD

Muffins and Polka Dots Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8" SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping. I actually bought three of these muffins, and ate one, as I figured with an 8" x 8", two would be enough. I like this one with all the yellows, browns and oranges. You wouldn't think of muffins as orange, but when I went to paint them, it's the color I saw.
