Woodland Light 2
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 16"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
This one is a repeat of an earlier painting, done for one of my collectors. Don't you like the strong sense of light? (The shore line is actually straight in the painting.)

Softly Hydrangeas
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
Another request painting, and I really enjoyed the colors on this one. That nice almost mauve, almost green color of the drying blooms is really fun, along with creams. Yum colors. We'll see if the colors are right for the collector, since I used word descriptions and intuition.
Postscript: They were, she loved it.

Red Passion Hydrangea Two
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
I am playing with the red hyrdrangeas again, seeing what I can do with them. There was more response to the first one than I anticipated, so this one was promised as "first dibs" to someone who asked. I tried for more definition here, from dark to light, doing an underpainting on the dark side of the two blooms.

Blue Apples - SOLD
Blue Apples
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 8" x 8"
SOLD at $45.00 plus shipping.
Okay, I'm not sure quite what I'm doing here, but I enjoyed doing the Wayne Thiebaud copy so much that I wanted to try something entirely different from my usual stuff. I actually like this one, it's just plain juicy.
It was and wasn't easy to let myself look at lovely goldens and paint them blue, but it's fun anyway.

Copy of Candy Apples, Wayne Thiebaud - SOLD
Copy of Candy Apples, by Wayne Thiebaud
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD.
Well this was just plain fun. One of my collectors wanted a copy of a Wayne Thiebaud piece, she likes his work so much. We agreed on this one, since I also wanted to do it, and this is what resulted. I cannot imagine the skill involved in being an art forger (what's the word?). I would find it impossible to copy every swish and wiggle and stroke, but this was fun to imitate, all the lush and thick, goopy paint he used. His sticks are truly straight, I wonder if he didn't paint them once the rest of the painting was dry. That's what I'm planning to do anyway, to get the wonderful clarity on the sticks.
Heading Home - NA
Heading Home
Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
Not Available, in memory of Nate
For this little painting, I tried to get the feeling of a quiet sunset, with that lovely sight and sound of geese heading home. Honking their way across the sky, in loose and fluid "V" shapes. This one is for my cousin's friends, who have recently lost a son. I thought it might be a comfort.

I have a commission for a large painting with these flowers. (I got mine at Michaels. ) So I'm playing around here with ideas for how best to paint them. It's good to experiment, but I'm still not quite sure how I'll do a large painting with them. Maybe petal by petal?

First Touch of Fall - SOLD
First Touch of Fall
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16"
SOLD at $100.00 plus shipping.
I had this one that didn't sell, called The Cut Through. I was sitting outside and looking at the same scene this morning, and noticed that some of the colors are just starting to change, so I played some more with it, and now I like it. I added loads of warms and cools, some spots of changing leaf color, but mostly kept the same basic shapes. It just seems richer and more interesting now.

Delaware Dreaming
Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
Home in Maryland, but I can't quite let the lovely time at Quillens go. So here's a quick little piece, done mostly with palette knife. I have also forgotten how to paint, so this small one is a way to "get back into it."

Night Lights - SOLD
Night Lights
Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10"
SOLD at $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping.
I sat out on the end of the pier for the sunset, and did a small watercolor. Thought the light show was all done, since there were clouds, but glancing out the window later, what a glorious blast of orange and pink. So I quick grabbed my camera again, and rushed out to catch the color. From memory I did this one tonight, just reacting to that glorious color. I'm not sure it really "works" but oh, it was fun to do. (The line of the shore is correct, as it isn't straight along this stretch, but curved.)
The Colors at Quillens - SOLD
The Colors at Quillens
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping.
Detail below.
I am in a bit of a dreamy mood, a little sad to be leaving in a day or so, a little moody about things at home. So, this is therapy for all of that, soft dabs and dots, quietly applied. In the beachy colors that have been my companions this last stretch of time. It works, very soothing and a very soft painting.

Cheater's Beach - SOLD
Cheater's Beach
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10"
SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping.
It was still a little windy today, but I got out on the pier anyway this afternoon. Decided though, that I was going to cheat like crazy and not put in any of the docks, steps, piers, or boats. So I just had fun painting water and sky, trees, and little spots of color peeking though. What a cheater!

Sage and Shower - SOLD
Sage and Shower
Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12"
SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping.
This is kind of a fun and funky little painting that won't mean much or have much appeal to folks other than those who have used this terrific outdoor shower. It is a beach house, after all. It's a spot out of the wind, but still outdoors, which is why I picked it for afternoon painting.
Burton's Island - SOLD
Burton's Island
Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
I wanted to continue painting last evening, so found one of the photos I took on our sailboat ride over to Burton's Island, which is a wildlife refuge, I think. Uninhabited, anyway. I loved this little natural canal, reflecting the sky, and then the lovely fields of grasses. A peaceful and beautiful place.

Side Porch View - SOLD
Side Porch View
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
I had to search around this morning for a spot out of the wind. It was a white cap sort of day, and chilly enough to make a fire in the old hearth quite delicious. I lasted a couple of hours outside, and then moved in and just sat by the window looking out. I like how you can still see though the screen porch to the next pier over.

Beach Towels - SOLD
Beach Towels with Afternoon Light
Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping.
I'd been eyeing the clothes line outside all last week, and when I was trying to figure out what to paint for someone who didn't know exactly what she wanted, I thought maybe this would be it. I got some beach towels, clothespins, hung them up, sat on the porch and while I was painting, two things happened. I figured out how to paint the light on the water that pops through the trees just there, and I figured out how to do grassy shadows better than last week. I think so anyway. Now to see if the painting matches the person.
