Red Passion Hydrangea - SOLD

Red Passion Hydrangea Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. I have a commission for a large painting with these flowers. (I got mine at Michaels. ) So I'm playing around here with ideas for how best to paint them. It's good to experiment, but I'm still not quite sure how I'll do a large painting with them. Maybe petal by petal?

First Touch of Fall - SOLD

First Touch of Fall Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16" SOLD at $100.00 plus shipping. I had this one that didn't sell, called The Cut Through. I was sitting outside and looking at the same scene this morning, and noticed that some of the colors are just starting to change, so I played some more with it, and now I like it. I added loads of warms and cools, some spots of changing leaf color, but mostly kept the same basic shapes. It just seems richer and more interesting now.

Mom's Magnolia - SOLD

Mom's Magnolia Oil on Stretched Canvas, 16" x 16" SOLD at $125.00 plus shipping. This one is done by request, as a gift for a "Mom". I do like doing the magnolia faces.

Garlic Flower - SOLD

Garlic Flower Oil on Stretched Canvas, 6" x 6" SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping. I found some garlic in the fridge, popped them in a bowl, and am relearning how to paint. I pointed the stems all inward, and it looks a bit like a flower to me, hence the name.

Delaware Dreaming - SOLD

Delaware Dreaming Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10" SOLD at $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Home in Maryland, but I can't quite let the lovely time at Quillens go. So here's a quick little piece, done mostly with palette knife. I have also forgotten how to paint, so this small one is a way to "get back into it."

Night Lights - SOLD

Night Lights Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10" SOLD at $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping. I sat out on the end of the pier for the sunset, and did a small watercolor. Thought the light show was all done, since there were clouds, but glancing out the window later, what a glorious blast of orange and pink. So I quick grabbed my camera again, and rushed out to catch the color. From memory I did this one tonight, just reacting to that glorious color. I'm not sure it really "works" but oh, it was fun to do. (The line of the shore is correct, as it isn't straight along this stretch, but curved.)

The Colors at Quillens - SOLD

The Colors at Quillens Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $65.00 plus shipping. Detail below. I am in a bit of a dreamy mood, a little sad to be leaving in a day or so, a little moody about things at home. So, this is therapy for all of that, soft dabs and dots, quietly applied. In the beachy colors that have been my companions this last stretch of time. It works, very soothing and a very soft painting.

Cheater's Beach - SOLD

Cheater's Beach Oil on Stretched Canvas, 10" x 10" SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping. It was still a little windy today, but I got out on the pier anyway this afternoon. Decided though, that I was going to cheat like crazy and not put in any of the docks, steps, piers, or boats. So I just had fun painting water and sky, trees, and little spots of color peeking though. What a cheater!

Burton's Island, Version 2 - SOLD

Burton's Island, Version2 Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. I promised another rendition of this one to a collector who has been asking to buy paintings almost every day, and missing them. So this one is for KK is she wants it.

Sage and Shower - SOLD

Sage and Shower Oil on Canvas Panel, 9" x 12" SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping. This is kind of a fun and funky little painting that won't mean much or have much appeal to folks other than those who have used this terrific outdoor shower. It is a beach house, after all. It's a spot out of the wind, but still outdoors, which is why I picked it for afternoon painting.

Burton's Island - SOLD

Burton's Island Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. I wanted to continue painting last evening, so found one of the photos I took on our sailboat ride over to Burton's Island, which is a wildlife refuge, I think. Uninhabited, anyway. I loved this little natural canal, reflecting the sky, and then the lovely fields of grasses. A peaceful and beautiful place.

Side Porch View - SOLD

Side Porch View Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. I had to search around this morning for a spot out of the wind. It was a white cap sort of day, and chilly enough to make a fire in the old hearth quite delicious. I lasted a couple of hours outside, and then moved in and just sat by the window looking out. I like how you can still see though the screen porch to the next pier over.

Beach Towels - SOLD

Beach Towels with Afternoon Light Oil on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. I'd been eyeing the clothes line outside all last week, and when I was trying to figure out what to paint for someone who didn't know exactly what she wanted, I thought maybe this would be it. I got some beach towels, clothespins, hung them up, sat on the porch and while I was painting, two things happened. I figured out how to paint the light on the water that pops through the trees just there, and I figured out how to do grassy shadows better than last week. I think so anyway. Now to see if the painting matches the person.

Lacewing Hydrangeas - SOLD

Lacewing Hydrangeas Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. Our day started out rainy and overcast, a perfect morning for sitting on the screen porch and setting up a still life. These mature lacewing hydrangea bushes are gorgeous and different. They have tough leaves and the sturdy blossoms turn down around a seed center, very cool. Great for thriving bay side.

Shore View - SOLD

Shore View Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $75.00 plus shipping. First thing this morning, the light was so lovely, and I faced the other direction (I'd been facing to the right, today I faced left to see the rest of the shore.) What really struck me was the bright white peeking through all the dark of the trees. And then I got to go for a sail boat ride, yay! I am pretty happy with this one.

String of Lights - SOLD

String of Lights Oil on Canvas Panel, 8" x 10" SOLD at $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping. I was wishing I had one of my long, narrow canvases for this. Just a quick study of what you can see in the night, looking out from the front steps. The pier and strip of distant land are darker shapes against a lighter dark. This was fun to paint.

Beach House in Long Light - SOLD

Beach House in Long Light Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD. I like this version because of the light in it. It's been pre-sold to someone who has many years of fond memories at this spot, and I can understand where it would mean a lot to have a visual memento.

The Screen Porch - SOLD

The Screen Porch Oil on Stretched Canvas, 11" x 14" SOLD at $40.00 plus shipping. I'm really not good with buildings. I think the shapes jump around while I'm trying to get the angles right. I wish I had set this lower on the canvas, and may decide to try it again. I do like the light inside the porch, and the way the grass turned out.

The Little White Garage - SOLD

The Little White Garage Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $50.00 plus shipping. I'm not sure if I like this one or not. The concept delighted me, the way the light was playing on the white garage and the pine needles on the roof, but I think I should have planned more for the execution. Instead I got all anxious that the light would change too quickly and rushed it, while getting bit by mosquitoes sitting in the shade. I'll take some photos today to try to catch the same late afternoon light, and try this one again.

Beach Chairs in the Shade - SOLD

Beach Chairs in the Shade Oil on Stretched Canvas, 12" x 12" SOLD at $70.00 plus shipping. No dock sitting this morning, as I turned my attention closer to land. The neighbors two white chairs were just lovely in the shade, so that's what caught my eye. I had to time things just right, as the sun was ducking in and out, and I had to wait to paint shadows and lights. It has a nice flavor, I think.
