Oma's Pink Glads= SOLD

Oma's Pink Glads Watercolor on Arches paper 12" x 23" Frame size 17.5" x 28.5" Sold. Bid on Painting here. This is a watercolor of pink gladiolas which I did for my Mom some years back. The glass broke and the matting was sheared in places. I am including the wood frame in the auction on ebay. New glass and matting will have to be purchased, but the frame goes really well with the watercolor, has touches of pink and off white in it. Detail of the painting and a small photo of a section of the frame are included. Thanks for looking.

Purple Iris Dreams - SOLD

Purple Iris Dreams detail shown Full Sheet 22" x 30" Watercolor on 300 lb Arches rough Watercolor Paper Available as an ebay auction, 3 days, starting price $75.00 plus shipping. This is a large watercolor of iris impressions. I would say that it is semi-realistic, not a botanical, but carefully rendered. My daughter tells me that people are in the mood for spring, color, flowers, and to cool it with the winter scenes already. LOL, she's probably right. This one could be done in a floating frame, all the deckles are intact and could be shown. I'm trying something different with this one, and have put it on ebay as a three day auction. I haven't learned yet how to do the simple links, so bear with me, and here's the long version. http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29296-2357-0?uid=128011575&site=0&ver=LCA080805&item=320103562705&lk=URL Thanks for looking.

White Boat Waiting - SOLD

White Boat Waiting Oil on Canvas board 16" x 20" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. Rain and sleet today in New England, so I stayed inside and did a study from photos of the beaver pond, with the little white boat that didn't get into the painting yesterday. While you miss the directness of painting outdoors (and I freely admit that I've a long ways to go before I'm a real plein air artist), you can take your time in the studio, and no wind to blow your easel over. Thanks for looking, and I join you in a respectful good bye to Kurt Vonnegut today.

Wauwinet Pond - SOLD

Oil on Canvas board
16" x 20"
SOLD at $60.00 plus shipping.
A sunny day, and warm enough for awhile to head down to the beautiful little beaver pond on my daughter's road. I'm not sure if it has a name, but we'll call it Wauwinet Pond. From here I could look over my shoulder to see the silo and farm from yesterday. What a spot to paint! Spring colors are starting to happen. This one is a little bigger, since I'm out of smaller panels for the moment. Thanks for looking.

Doray Pines - SOLD

Doray Pines 12" x 16" Oil on Canvas board Sold at $30.00 plus shipping. My Mass native daughter laughed at me today in her backyard, bundled up in 2 shirts, a fleece jacket and a winter coat, neck warmer and hat. "Mom," she says, "it's not THAT cold out!" But to me, sitting in the wind, it felt cold enough. There was, however, sunshine and blue sky, so we are on our way. A study of the backyard pines. Thanks for looking.

Waiting for Spring - SOLD

Oil on Canvas board 12" x 16" Sold at $30.00 plus shipping. Among all the boxes still stacked up high from the move, I found everything I needed today to venture out to paint. We saw robins this morning, but it was still close to freezing, and this was not a leisurely painting. The country side is waiting for real spring weather. These are the colors on this chilly Massachusetts day. Thanks for looking.

Plentiful Petunias - SOLD

Watercolor on 300 lb Rough Paper image size 17" x 8" Sold at $30.00 plus shipping A watercolor of the petunias from my Mom's back yard, started a few years back, and now finished. Petunias, lots of petunias. Thanks for looking.

Swain's Lock Two - SOLD

Swain's Lock Two Oil on Canvas board 12" x 16" Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. Working from a photo taken at the spot where I was painting en plein air, I've tried for the shine of the water here, and the feel of the day. The sun was popping through now and then, but there was still a nudge in the air to keep your jacket on. Thanks for looking.

Eastern Shore June - SOLD

Oil on Canvas board 8" x 10" Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. In the way of anniversaries, I have been painting seriously since last June (of 2006.) I took a weekend workshop on the Eastern Shore of Maryland under Bethanne Kinsella Cople, and we painted and watched her demonstrations for the entire weekend. It was wonderful. This little painting is from one of the photos I took of the spot where I was working, and oh, the difference in my results between that first painting and this one. I'm happy with the improvement and it is good to stop once in awhile, looking back to see how far you've come. Mostly we look forward to the places we want to be, but to see progress is a good thing. Isn't this a sweet little piece? Thanks for looking.

Pine Lake - SOLD

Pine Lake
Oil on Stretched Canvas
24" x 24"
Sold at $80.00.
The pines picked up a little glare in this photo, they are darker in the painting. It was nice to use big brushes and spread out today on a larger canvas. I also got into a gray and lavender colored sky, which was fun. I really like this one, and would love to sell it to one of my local customers for pick up. I think the shipping is going to be expensive. However, if you are willing to cover shipping costs, I will be glad to send it out as well. Thanks for looking.

Water and Trees Study - SOLD

Water and Trees Study Oil on Stretched Canvas 9" x 12" Sold as Study at $30.00 plus shipping. Working from a variety of sources, studying other painters I admire, and trying to understand what they do, this is a hodgepodge, made-up scene. Credit to Bethanne Kinsella Cople and Ed Cooper, whose work I am studying. Also trying to steer a little away from the olive green and use more Viridian and blues in this piece. Thanks for looking.

Large Iris Watercolor - SOLD

Large Pink Iris Watercolor on 300 lb. Rough Arches Paper 15" x 18" Suggested Cropped Size, Second Photo: 12" x 15" Sold at $40.00 plus shipping. This watercolor was destined for the trash pile of old projects in calligraphy and watercolors, but when I took another look, I thought...hmm, maybe cropped it would be okay. And I do think the cropped version looks better. However, I'll ship it as is, and let the buyer decide. The blue is a series of glazes to get the intensity of darks. Thanks for looking.

Tree Study with Brook - SOLD

Tree Study with Brook 12" x 12" Oil on Stretched Canvas Sold at $20.00 plus shipping. Another study for practicing trees and foliage. This one is simply a made up place, with a little brook meandering through the fields. I think the trees are slowly getting better, but I'm not there yet by a long shot. Thanks for looking.

Tree Study After Libby Tolley - NFS

Tree Study After Libbey Tolley 12" x 12" Oil on Stretched Canvas Not For Sale Claimed as free. I so admire Elizabeth (Libby) Tolley, a wonderful California painter who does the most incredible landscapes, full of such light and atmosphere. In trying to work on trees, I copied from her painting, here: http://www.libbytolley.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=Elizabeth-Tolley-One-Woman-Show-November-12%2C-2005-Vault-Gallery-%2C-Cambria-CA&id=aay And because it's a copy, and I'm giving credit, it cannot be sold for profit. So if you happen to like it, it's up for grabs. I'm asking for $20.00 to ship it and replace the canvas. Thanks for looking. If you go to her site, spend some time there, she has just exquisite work!

Tree Study - SOLD

Tree Study Oil on Stretched Canvas 11" x 14" Sold at $30.00 plus $15.00 shipping. It's dawning on me lately that I don't know how to paint trees. I know, you'd think that would be so easy. But to depict the leaves in masses, groupings with shadow, reflected light, highlights and subtle differences in green tones...well, I need to study how other painters do it. On this study, I painted the trees first, trying to get them right. It's closer, but not quite there yet. Thanks for looking.

Monday Painter - SOLD

Monday Painter
Oil on Stretched Canvas
11" x 14"
Sold at $50.00 plus shipping.
See the little guy under the tree? He's loving life. What could be better than enjoying the wonderful outdoors, sitting on a stool, painting Nature's beauty, absorbed in your work, and listening to the wonderful outdoor sounds by the side of a lake? Thanks for looking.

Creek Suncatchers - SOLD

Creek Suncatchers
Oil on Stretched Canvas
11" x 14"
Sold at $50.00 plus shipping.
Painting as a reward in the evening, for a good day's packing efforts. This one is done with brushes as a base, and then palette knife work over top. Done from a photo taken in Hillandale, Maryland a summer or two ago. I am always drawn to sparkling water in sunshine. Thanks for looking.

Swain's Lock - SOLD

Swain's Lock, Potomac, MD Oil on Canvas board 12" x 16" Plein Air painting, sold at $50.00 plus shipping. The Yahoo group of Montgomery County Plein Air painters was going out today, and it was so pretty out that I decided to join them. Swain's Lock is part of the C&O canal system that runs along the Potomac, and oh, it was so nice to be out. There was a beautiful heron, and lots of geese honking, so nice that I was in short sleeves for awhile. Sunshine, YES! This is a bit of a rough and tumble painting, trying to capture the silvery quality of the water and the wonderful green reflections. Thanks for looking.

Red Plums - SOLD

Red Plums Oil on Canvas board 8" x 10" Sold at $50.00 plus shipping. I wanted to try a little less color, so I kept the plate, background and shadows very neutral in this one. I think it really showcases the plum colors. I want to let everyone know that for the next couple of weeks I will not be posting daily. I'll still be painting, and will post sporadically, but my main focus will be on packing to move, and sending off the paintings that have sold as they dry. Thanks for your patience.
