I've been out of commission for an entire week. A strength-zapping flu bug that's been going around, which started out like a bad cold and then went into chills and fever. I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day under the covers, sleeping as much as I could, too weak to do much else. Today was the first day that I felt I wanted to paint again, and something very simple at that.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Christmas, those of you who celebrate the Lord's birth.
And I wish each and every one a healthy, flu-free; prosperous and happy 2015. Thank you so much for all your support and friendship over the year(s).

Every once in awhile, a palette knife painting is just the slow down I need. I paint these with just the tip of the pointed small knife, a little tap tap stroke. I'm always happy with how much careful blending you can do with such a tool. Of course, the pieces take forever, but it's also a fun way to paint.

Another visit to the Food Bank over the weekend. It's so nice that I can also get flowers there, pick a couple of packages, and then discard the dead flowers, make a new bouquet from the survivors. Along with my blue vase from our local hospital thrift shop.

I have to admit that I had help with this one. My 6 year old granddaughter loves to draw and paint, so she sat on my lap (lap painting, Yay) and did the white snow for me. But only to the edges. "I can blend, TT!" So I let her do a little of that too.

Our pastor on Thanksgiving Eve was a local rabbi who announced at the service that he also ran a Food Bank out of his third garage. We were invited to follow him home and it was a bonanza of lovely food, a lot of it from Trader Joe's. I've gone back about four times since then, and have had some wonderful meals, fresh produce only slightly marred, and this time when I went I took three almost dead bunches of flowers, picked through them, and made this freebie bouquet. What's not to like?

I had painted this one last week, and called it "Ablaze at Wildwood." (Scroll down five posts to see.) Since it didn't sell, I decided to play around with it. I added more green, added more sky holes, used a palette knife to make it a bit more complicated and textured, and lowered the ground line. Much better now, I think. More "leafy" looking.

I found this bowl at one of the Goodwill type stores in the area, can't remember the name, Value City or somesuch. I thought I'd use it for lemons, but I used the lemons in my tea. Amazing, no yellows!
I snapped the reference photo for this one on the way home from an unsuccessful plein air outing with a class I was taking at the time. I love the orange reflections in the water. It was probably the best part of the day.
And yes, the painting did go more easily today, back in the saddle.

It's been five days since I painted with oils, having taken a small detour to do a couple of watercolors. Just long enough to forget how to paint, really. I had to struggle with this one, scraping some area off twice to repaint them. I'm pretty happy with it now, but I wonder how that is, that you can forget so quickly, and be awkward with the return.
