I think this one might work for them, just one color, with some white, and some blending. I think I will tell them to do a darker background though. I may still change this one. Maybe a nice cool grey-blue.

Okay, so roses are tough, probably because they are so complex. My students requested "roses" for next week's lesson, and I figured I'd start early to practice. If  I can do something in oils, I can make the switch to acrylics, and figure out a lesson for them. This one isn't entirely successful, but it has some appeal.

These are two paintings I am showing as step-by-step exercises in the finished Mini-Lesson on Acrylics.
The lesson is now available (finished it today, along with the two exemplar paintings) at $20, and will be sent to you in three emails. It turned out to be 17 pages long, so I split it into three parts. It gives some basics about using acrylics, at least some of what I've learned so far, and the shows the progress of these two paintings in stages, with color notations and simple instructions.
